The nurse’s bag is the vehicle for carrying the tools
needed during a home visit. The public health nurse bag
is designed to carry equipment and material needed
during a visit to the home, school, and factory.
Equipment and material are needed to make test and to
demonstrate patient care such as hb estimation,
application of ointment and medications, urine testing
etc. The bag should be made up of canvas, leather, or
light metal, rexin. The bag can be carried by the hand or
on the shoulder.

be the one most convenient to the user to facilitate
the efficiency and avoid confusion.
3. Hand washing is done as frequently as the situation
calls for, helps in minimizing or avoiding
contamination of the bag and its contents.
4. The bag used for a communicable case should be
thoroughly cleaned and disinfected before keeping
and re-using.

Spread the mat in selected working area and
spreads the double sheeted newspaper. Demonstration

Place the community bag in the corner of the
newspaper.
Removes wrist watch and secures in the uniform

like stationary items, family folder, AV aids and
place it in the working area.
Opening the bag, takes hand washing articles
(soap with soap dish or soap solution & towel)
and a 15x10 cm sized newspaper and places it
near hand washing area over the
footstool/elevated dry and clean surface.
If washing facilities are not available. In that
circumstance hand rub can be used instead of
soap and water.
Washes hand using standard steps.
Take needed articles from the compartments of
the bag and close it.
Collects complete identification profile from the
beneficiary /care taker
PERFORMANCE PHASE
Perform the procedure as per standard scientific
principles
DISINFECTION AND REPLACEMENT PHASE
Washes the hands, wash and bring all used items
except hand washing item to newspaper.

Uses the sprit applied cotton ball to disinfect the
sterile, clean compartment articles and replace it.
Discard the cotton ball in the paper bag.
Wash hands again, dry with towel and replace the
hand wash items in the front compartment of the
bag.
Hand over the used paper bag along with the
cotton balls and 15x10 cm sized newspaper (on
which hand washing materials was placed) to be
handed over to the responsible family member for
the proper disposal.
CLOSING PHASE
Folds the newspaper with used side inside and
place it in the outer compartment.
Writes a clear and concise report of procedure.
Thank the family members for their cooperation.

CONCLUSION:
The bag technique is a tool by which the nurse, during her visit will enable her to perform a nursing procedure with ease and deftness, to save
time and effort with the end view of rendering effective nursing care to clients. The public health bag is an essential and indispensable equipment
of a public health nurse which she has to carry along during her home visit . It contains basic medication and articles which are necessary for
giving care.
