Ven. Chang Xi

• Ven Chang xi started the session expressing his personal experience on


how Sri Lankan society reacts towards LGBTQ+
• Quoted Ven. Dhammika’s words on LGBTQ+
“If two people [are] of the same gender or two people [are] of a different gender, their
sexual actions are motivated by love and the desire to share, give comfort, or even
have fun, that wouldn’t necessarily be an immoral act . . .
Buddhist ethics about sex are primarily concerned with the motives behind our sexual
behaviour, rather than the gender of our partner.”
• Buddhist Equality, homosexuality is no better or no worse than heterosexuality,
because neither same-sex or opposite-sex relationships are distinguishable, as long as
the relationship is sincere, faithful, and mutually caring.
• Homosexual individuals are innately able to awaken and are not necessarily inferior to
heterosexual people; that is, they are capable of emancipation. Thus, Buddhism can
embrace this discriminated group.

Ven. Ben Hou
• There are different views among Tibetan Buddhist teachers on acceptable
• Gampopa (12th century), one of the main early masters of the Kagyu school of Tibetan
Buddhism stated that oral and anal sex, whether with a man or a woman, are violations
of the third precept regarding inappropriate sexual behavior.
• the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa, have offered understanding towards LGBTQ people
while noting that same-sex relationships do not necessarily constitute misconduct for
lay people.
• The 14th Dalai Lama has "voiced his support for the full recognition of human rights
for all people, regardless of sexual orientation," while noting that from a Buddhist
point of view, lesbian and gay sex is "generally considered sexual misconduct
• By decriminalizing homosexuality, Bhutan becomes the latest nation to take steps to
ease restrictions on same-sex relationships.
• Furthermore, Tantric Buddhism also preaches homosexual activities as one of the
ways to raise the creative energy, kundalini, and thereby gain enlightenment.
• Sexual misconduct: Sexual misconduct for men and women consists of oral and
anal sex . . . Even with your wife, using one’s mouth or other hole is sexual
misconduct. Using one’s hand, that is sexual misconduct

Jie Xing
• Ven Jie Xing was mainly focused on some of the Vinaya rules; pātimokkha.
• He pointed out the rules related to indefinite offences. (Physical closeness and private
conversation)
• Further, he explained about rules related with confession offences “If a bhikkhu sleeps
in a place where there is a surrounding wall and under the same roof with a woman,
even for one night, it is an offence of Confession.
