Speaking Practice 1

Part 1: Introduction and Interview (4-5 minutes)

Examiner: Good morning/afternoon/evening. Can you tell me your full name, please?

Candidate: Yes, certainly. My full name is [Your Full Name].

Examiner: Thank you. Can I see your identification, please? Candidate: Of course. Here you
go.

Examiner: Thank you. Now, in this first part, I’d like to ask you some questions about
yourself, your home, your studies or work, and your interests.

1. Let's start with your hometown or the place you currently live in. Can you describe it
to me?

2. What do you like most about your hometown/place you live in?

3. Moving on to studies/work, what do you do? Can you describe your typical day?

4. What are the most popular leisure activities in your country?


5. Do you enjoy any particular hobbies or activities in your free time?

Part 2: Long Turn (3-4 minutes)

Now, I’m going to give you a topic, and I’d like you to talk about it for 1-2 minutes. You'll
have one minute to prepare before you start speaking. Here's your topic:

Describe a memorable holiday you have had. Please say:


• Where and when you went

• Who you went with

• What you did during the holiday


• Why it was memorable to you

Part 3: Discussion (4-5 minutes)

We've been talking about holidays. Now, let's discuss some related topics in more detail.

1. What do you think are the benefits of taking holidays?

Speaking Practice 1

Marking Criteria Part 1:

• Fluency and Coherence: Ability to speak fluently and coherently without frequent
pauses or hesitations.

• Vocabulary Range and Accuracy: Use of a wide range of vocabulary accurately to


express ideas.

• Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Use of a variety of grammatical structures with


few errors.
• Pronunciation: Clear pronunciation and intonation, making it easy for the examiner to
understand.

Grading Rubric Part 2:

• Task Response: Addresses all aspects of the prompt including what the event was,
when and where it happened, who the candidate was with, and why it made them feel
happy.
• Fluency and Coherence: Ability to speak continuously for 1-2 minutes with logical
progression of ideas.

• Vocabulary Range and Accuracy: Use of varied vocabulary related to the event and
emotions accurately.

• Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Use of complex sentences and grammatical


structures with minimal errors.

• Pronunciation: Clear pronunciation and intonation, making it easy for the examiner to
understand.

Grading Rubric Part 3:

• Ability to Express Ideas: Demonstrates the ability to express opinions and provide
explanations on a range of topics.

• Coherence and Cohesion: Presents ideas in a logical and organized manner, with clear
connections between them.

• Vocabulary and Grammar: Uses a wide range of vocabulary and complex grammatical
structures accurately.
