II. Answer the following questions briefly.
1. What is the work of the police?
A) Work of the Police: 1.To maintain law and order in its area. 2. To register cases of
thefts, accidents, injuries, fights etc. 3. To inquire, investigate, and take action on the
cases within its area.
2. Describe the duties of a Patwari.
A) Duties of a Patwari:
● Responsible for a group of villages.

● Maintains and updates the records of the village.

● Measures land with a long chain.

● Organizes collection of land revenue.

● Provides information to the government about crops grown in the area.

● Updating records is required because of the following: Change in crops


and Digging of wells.
3. What is the work of a Tehsildar?

A) Duties of a Tehsildar:
● He hears disputes.

● He supervises the work of Patwaris.

● He ensures that records are properly maintained by Patwaris and


revenue is collected.
● He ensures that farmers get a copy of his records.

● He issues caste certificates to students.

● Land disputes are also heard by a Tehsildar.

4. What issue is the poem trying to raise? Do you think this is an important issue?
Why?

A) The poem raises the issue of rights for a girl child. A girl should be treated equally
in society. She should be given the same right as a male child is given. Inheritance in
the parental properties should be equally divided among all the members without any
consideration of boy or girl. Dowry is not compensated to a girl child. It should be
abolished. This poem raises a very justified issue.
5. ‘In what ways are the work of the Panchayat that you read about in the previous
chapter, and the work of the Patwari related to each other?
A) Panchayat provides facilities in the village, Patwari arranges for money to get the
facilities worked out/executed.
6. Visit a police station and find out the work that the police have to do to prevent
crime and maintain law and order in their area especially during festivals, public
meetings etc.
A) During festivals, public meetings, etc. the police become more active in order to
control crime and maintain law and order. CCTV cameras are installed in the area at
different places to keep watch on the activities of the people. To control the people
they barricade the area.Some information booths are also installed. Proper lighting is
also made.
7. Who is in charge of all the police stations in a district? Find out
A) Senior Superintendent of Police or Deputy Commissioner of Police is the in-charge
of all Police stations in a district.
8. Describe the provisions of Hindu Succession Amendment Act, 2005.
A) Provisions of Hindu Succession Amendment Act, 2005.
● Until the amendment women did not have the right to share their family's
agricultural land.
● After the death of father his land was distributed among his sons only.

According to New Law:


● Sons, daughters and their mothers get equal share in the land.
● The law applies to all the states and union territories.
● Patwari will transfer the land to all sons, daughters and their mother and
record their names in the revenue records.
