 Prayer, Checking of Attendance, Reminders
 Review about deciles for ungrouped and grouped data
B. Motivation
Present this situation to the class and ask related questions that will lead to the present
discussion.
Your mother says that you seem to be short for your age. In school, your teacher measures
you and your classmates’ heights as she computes for your BMI. Your teacher tells you that
your height belongs to the 9 th decile in the class. Assuming you and your classmates have
similar ages, how would you react to what your mother says?
1. Presentation
1. Find the third decile and interpret the scores obtained by 12 students in a summative test
in Mathematics 10.
53, 58, 37, 55,54, 42, 39, 36, 30, 67, 61,68
2. Discussion/Abstraction
Example 1:
Step 1: First, arrange the scores in ascending order.
30, 36, 37, 39, 42, 53, 54, 55, 58, 61, 67, 68
Step 2: Locate the position for D3
3
D 3= (12+1) Substitute the values
10
3
¿ (13) Add 12 and 1 and multiply to 3
10
39
¿ Divide
10
¿ 3.9 ≈ 4 Round off to the nearest integer
D3 is the 4th element. So, D3 = 39.
Interpretation: 30% of the students got a score of less than or equal to 39.

3. Exercises
If the value of the 7th decile in a certain distribution of scores is 52. What does it mean?
4. Generalization
How are problems involving deciles interpreted?
5. Application
Mrs. Labonete gave a test to her students in Statistics. The students finished their test in 35
minutes. This time is the 2.5th decile of the allotted time. What does this mean?

H. Evaluation
Directions: Find the value of the following and interpret the results.
1. Mrs. Marasigan is a veterinarian. One morning, she asked her secretary to record the
service time for 15 customers. The following are service times in minutes.
20, 35, 55, 28, 46, 32, 25, 56, 55, 28, 37, 60, 47, 52, 17
Find the value and interpret:
a. 2nd decile for Groups 1 & 5 c. 3rd decile for Groups 3 & 7
th
b. 6 decile for Groups 2 & 6 d. 8th decile for Groups 4 & 8

2. The value of the 5th decile of the Assessment Test in Mathematics 10 of Miss Lily is 40.
What is your interpretation?
