HUMAN BEINGS ARE EMOTIONAL BEINGS

 emphasizes that emotions are an inherent part of who we are. They guide our
actions, shape our decisions, and define our connections with others.

 In this chapter, we will explore the different types of emotions and how they
affect our development. We will begin by operational defining the term
"Emotion".

EMOTION are a natural part of being human, and are defined as conscious mental
reactions that can cause strong feelings.

3 DISTINCT COMPONENTS OF EMOTION:

• SUBJECTIVE EXPERIENCE
 reacts or respond to different situations or events
• PHYSIOLOGICAL EXPERIENCE
 reacts or respond to psychological needs
• BEHAVIORAL OR EXPRESSIVE RESPONSE
 actual expression of emotion

IMPORTANCE OF EMOTIONS
• It is essential to one’s physical survival or mental health.
• It helps distinguish whether certain emotions are socially appropriate.
• Emotions motivate behavior.
• Emotions play an essential role in creativity & intellectual curiosity.

EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE
 refers to the ability to recognize, understand, manage, and influence emotions
in oneself and others.
Emotional Competence, refers to the ability to effectively manage and
express emotions, as well as to interact constructively with others in
emotional contexts.
2 COMPONENTS OF EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE

• INTRAPERSONAL INTELLIGENCE
 is the ability to understand and reflect on one’s own emotions, thoughts,
motivations, and behaviors.

• INTERPERSONAL INTELLIGENCE
 is the ability to understand and interact effectively with others.

COMMUNICATING EMOTION
 It is how to express and interpret emotions. These are the basic guidelines on
how to communicate our feelings:
• Practice empathy
 By practicing this, we are building awareness and can emotionally understand
others.
• Identify your emotions
 We should be aware of our inner selves and identify our primary feelings.
• Choose how to communicate your emotions
 If the primary feelings are identified, we must consider how to express our
emotions.
• Monitor your self-talk
 Pay attention to your self-talk and identify anything negative.
• Respond sensitively when others communicate their emotions
 Try not to respond with generalities or resolve their problem. Let them express
their feelings and respond appropriately.
EMOTIONAL REGULATION
 is the ability to manage and control your emotions in a healthy and
constructive way.
