The Lost Key


Maria stepped out of her apartment, juggling her handbag and a grocery list. She locked the door and slipped the key
into her coat pocket before heading to the corner store. The day was crisp, and fallen leaves crunched under her feet as she
walked.
At the store, Maria carefully selected fresh vegetables, bread, and a small bouquet of flowers. At the checkout, she
realized she had left her wallet at home. Embarrassed, she apologized and promised to return shortly.
Back at her apartment, Maria reached into her pocket but found no key. Panic gripped her as she rummaged through
her handbag and retraced her steps in her mind. It wasn’t on the sidewalk or in the store. Just as she was about to call the
locksmith, her neighbor, Mr. Ellis, appeared.
“Looking for this?” he asked, holding up her key. “Found it by the elevator.”
Maria sighed with relief and thanked him profusely. She promised herself to be more careful in the future.
