INTRODUCING THE SOUND / iː/

1. Say the sound alone: /iː/


2. Say the sound in a word: see
3. Conduct repetition chorally: Repeat after me: "see," "see," "see."
4. Conduct repetition individually: Now, let's hear you say it: [wait for
individual responses].
5. Explain how to make the sound: To make the /iː/ sound, The tip of the
tongue may be close to the bottom of the upper teeth, but the body of the
tongue is raised high and forward. The lips should be unrounded (spread,
like when smiling).
6. Contrast it with a similar sound: Compare /iː/ as in "see" with /ɪ/ as in "sit."
Notice how /iː/ is a longer sound and your tongue is higher in the mouth
compared to the shorter /ɪ/ sound.
