2 Aerobic respiration
energy;
aerobic; energy; glucose;
controlled; oxygen;
carbon dioxide; water.
oxygen carbon dioxide water
A is an animal cell and B is a plant cell.
Aerobic respiration takes place in the mitochondria. Check you have correctly labelled them in both
animal and plant cells by comparison with your Student Book.
Cells such as muscle cells in animals and the cells that produce seeds and fruits in plants need a lot of
energy to carry out their functions. This energy comes from the controlled breakdown of glucose using
oxygen in aerobic respiration. This takes place in the mitochondria. Cells that need a lot of energy have lots
of mitochondria to supply the energy. Cells like storage cells use little energy so they need few mitochondria.
