The ability to solve problems is a skill that
every child like you needs to develop, here are steps that
can help you become a good problem solver.
5 Steps Problem Solving for Children
1. Know your Feelings – you should always give importance
to your feelings especially when you encounter problems.
As a child, it is normal to feel sad, disappointed, and angry
but you need to calm down before you can solve them.
And how can you calm down? It can be by doing simple
breathing exercise. Take a deep breath (inhale), and
slowly exhale. Do that least five times or until you feel you
are relaxed.
2. Know your problem – when a child like you has a
problem, you should first find out what the problem is.
Identify it. That is the only time you may be able to solve it.
Find out what makes you feel sad and annoyed. Bear in
mind that this problem belongs to you, not to other people.
3. Know your solutions - when you think of a solution, come
up, as much as possible, with different options and not to
only one. So by the time a chosen solution did not work out,
you still have alternatives to apply. Your ability to solve
more problems give you easier time to find for a solution.
4. Know the Possible Results – it is good to predict the
possibilities of what will happen after applying your chosen
solution. Is it safe? A safe solution means no one is hurt or
sad. Will the solution be fair and good for everyone?
5. Try your solution – decide on what solution to try on.
Apply it. Did it solve the problem? If it does not, you can try
on the alternative solutions you came up with.
Below are scenarios that need to be resolved. If you
encounter them, what could be your best solution? Act it
out and show it to your parent or guardian.
