Instructions:
1. Using the example table below, do the following:
a. Enter your ratings from the completed questionnaire on the line above the item numbers in
parentheses.
b. Do the addition and subtraction indicated in each row to compute each PEC score. Note that
the item numbers in the columns are consecutive. Item No. 2 is below No.1, and so on.
c. Add all that PEC scores to get your total raw score.

(54)
4 - 5- 5- 4+ 4+ 18 =12 Correction Factor (11) (22) (33) (44)
(55)
2. Get your net score by subtracting the correction factor from your total raw score. The correction
factor is used to determine whether or not a person tries to present a very favorable image of himself or
herself. If the total score on this factor is 20 or greater, then the total scores on the PECs must be
corrected to provide a more accurate assessment of the strength of the PEC scores for that individual.
Follow the steps below:
a) Go to the last column of the ratings table (Table 1). Calculate your correction factor score as
follows: Add scores in Items 11 and 55; subtract scores in Items 22, 33 and 44; then add 18.
b) Now that you have the correction factor score, use the following guide in figuring how much
to subtract from your raw score. Encircle or highlight the numbers that correspond to your score.
Subtract the following number from
each
24-25 7
22-23 5
20-21 3
19 or less 0
c.) Now, you can correct your raw scores in each PEC. Use the following table while referring to the
original ratings on the example table above.
Origi Correction Corrected
nal
Opportunity Seeking 16 - 0 = 16
Persistence 15 - 0 = 15
Commitment to the Work Contract 12 - 0 = 12
Demand for quality/efficiency 10 - 0 = 1 0
Risk Taking 1 0 - 0 = 10
Goal Setting 15 - 0 = 15
Information Seeking 20 - 3 = 17
Systematic planning/controlling 1 4 - 0 = 1 4
Persuasion and Networking 1 9 - 0 = 1 9
Self-confidence 13 - 0 = 13
3. Get your PEC Profile by transferring the corrected PEC score to the profile sheet on page 6. Using the
profile sheet on page 6, follow the steps below:
a) Mark an “x” at the appropriate point on the horizontal line for each PEC.
b.) Draw a heavy line connecting the “x’s” in downward manner for each PEC and you have
constructed your PEC profile
Provide reflection on how you assess your PEC’s.
Completing the Personal Entrepreneurial Competencies (PECs) self-rating questionnaire
provided me with an insightful evaluation of my entrepreneurial strengths and areas that require
improvement. This assessment helped me understand the qualities I possess that align with
successful entrepreneurial behavior, as well as the areas I need to enhance to become a more
effective and well-rounded entrepreneur.
One of my strongest competencies is Information Seeking (17). This indicates that I actively
look for relevant information, seek advice from knowledgeable individuals, and make well-
informed decisions. This skill is crucial for entrepreneurship as it helps in problem-solving and
strategic planning.Additionally, my Persistence (15) and Goal Setting (15) scores suggest that I
am determined in achieving my objectives and set clear goals for myself. These qualities are
essential for overcoming challenges and ensuring long-term success in any business or project.
My Persuasion and Networking (19) score is another strength, showing that I have the ability to
build connections and influence others to support my ideas. This competency is valuable in
securing partnerships, attracting investors, and growing a business. One of the areas where I
scored lower is Commitment to the Work Contract (12). This suggests that I may need to work on
ensuring tasks are completed on time and taking full responsibility for delivering results. Another
area that requires improvement is Demand for Quality and Efficiency (10). While I strive to
complete tasks, I may need to pay more attention to ensuring that the work is done at a high
standard rather than just meeting deadlines. My Risk-Taking (10) score indicates that while I am
open to taking risks, I tend to evaluate them cautiously. While careful planning is important,
being an entrepreneur often requires taking bold steps. I can improve by learning how to take
calculated risks with confidence.
Overall, my PEC assessment highlights that I have a strong foundation in information-
seeking, persistence, networking, and goal setting. However, I need to work on improving my
commitment to completing tasks, maintaining high-quality work, and becoming more
comfortable with taking risks. By focusing on these areas, I can develop a well-rounded
entrepreneurial mindset that will help me succeed in future ventures.
