Lesson: ICT – A Platform for Change


There are people who are campaigning for something that would mean something to
change. These changes are social changes. These campaigns might be something about
prevention of bullying, health awareness, or something else that is significant. We usually see these
in social media and other websites. Sometimes, we also see TV commercials that show campaigns
about something that calls for a change. We even hear these campaigns on the radio. We cannot
deny the fact that people are using ICT to be able to communicate to the world and spread
information for awareness. 1

These information calls us to do our part for something to change. These ways of
communication makes ICT as a platform for Social Change. We might not be able to observe this
or we might not be very aware of this but ICT has done a big part in the constant changes that our
world has undergone.
 ICT – A Medium for Advocacy
- To do an act or process of supporting a cause or proposal
- The act or process of advocating something

 Advocacy in democracy is about getting what you want out of the government.
- EDSA Dos and the use of text messaging to mobilize people
- Million people march against the pork barrel via Facebook
- Disaster relief operations and mobilization via internet and text brigades
