Collagen is a protein extensively used in cosmetics; can be administered orally, applied as
a cream. It is an important constituent of connective tissue that acts as a glue that holds
all other tissues together. Connective tissue has the important function of ensuring that
‘our body systems work in harmony. The relative amount and arrangement of collagen,
elastin and reticular fibres determine the type of connective tissues found in the body.
\) Why is collagen extensively used in cosmetics?
») lymph is a connective tissue that lacks collagen. Why is it called as a connective tissue?
}) Name two connective tissues that primarily contain large number of these fibres.
Correlate between the structure and function of any one of them.
Oxygen is one of the important keys in understanding climate change. It exists as “light”
oxygen -16 and “heavy" oxygen -18. The ratio of these two types of oxygen in water changes
with climate. Evaporation and condensation are types of processes that influence the
formation Ha'“0 and He"90 in oceans. Water containing light oxygen evaporates slightly more
readily than water molecules containing heavy oxygen. At the same time water vapor
molecules containing heavy oxygen condenses more readily than water containing light
oxygen. [0 - 16u}
@) How do we commonly know light and heavy oxygen?
