• The pre-service teacher will present the names of the students.
• The students will participate in a review game called "The Wall: Random Name
Picker".
• The pre-service teacher will ask some questions regarding the past lesson, and the
students will answer them through the game.

Here are the following questions:

1. What is computer diagnostic software tools?
2. Can you give me at least two examples of computer diagnostic software tools?
3. What did you learn during our previous lesson?
3. Motivation

• The teacher will present a word puzzle on the board related to the lesson (e.g.,
"Bootable," "ISO," "Partition," "Rufus").
• Students will work in pairs to unscramble the words and guess their meanings.
• The first pair to unlock all the words wins a small prize (e.g., extra points, stickers,
candies).
4. Unlocking of Difficulties

• Bootable Flash Drive: A USB drive containing an operating system installer that
can boot a computer.
• Rufus: A free, open-source software used to create bootable USB drives.
• ISO File: A disk image file containing the complete contents of a CD/DVD.

B. Presentation of the Lesson

What is Bootable Device?
A boot device is any piece of hardware that can read or contains the files required for a
computer to start.
What is Rufus?

RUFUS also known as the “Reliable USB Formatting Utility, with Source” It is a
free and open-source portable application for Microsoft Windows that can be used to
format and create bootable USB flash drives or Live USBs.

Using Rufus to Create a Bootable USB/Flash Drives: A Step-By-Step Guide

1. LAUNCH RUFUS

By default, your downloaded files can be found in your Downloads

folder. Double-click on Rufus to launch the application when the
download is complete. No additional installation steps are necessary.

2. INSERT A USB/ FLASH DRIVE

You can insert it in any free USB port on your PC. You will need a USB
drive that is big enough to hold the ".ISO" file you want to write to the
USB drive.
3. SELECT YOUR USB/FLASH DRIVE IF NEEDED

When you insert a USB drive, Rufus will usually detect it

automatically. If needed, select your USB drive using the "Devices"
drop-down menu.
4. CLICK SELECT
It is the button on the right-hand side. This opens a file browser that
you can use to select an ISO image.
5. SELECT AN ISO FILE

Navigate to where you downloaded the ISO file you want to write to
the USB drive and select it. Then click Open.
6. GIVE THE VOLUME LABEL A NAME (OPTIONAL)

If you want to give your USB drive a name, enter it in the "Volume
Label" field. Otherwise, leave it as is.
7. CLICK START
It is at the bottom in the lower-right corner. This will start writing the
ISO file for Rufus. This may take several minutes.
C. Application
Hands-On Activity: CREATING A BOOTABLE FLASHDRIVE
1. Students will work individually or in pairs to create their own bootable flash drives using Rufus.
2. The teacher will roam around the classroom to aid and ensure students are following the steps
correctly.
Verification: Students will verify if their bootable flash drive was created successfully by checking
the Rufus log or testing the USB drive on another computer (if available).

D. Generalization
A USB bootable drive is a powerful tool that allows users to install, repair, or troubleshoot
operating systems on a computer. By using software like Rufus, we can easily create a bootable
USB drive by writing an ISO file onto it. This process requires careful attention to settings such
as partition schemes and file systems to ensure compatibility with different devices. Creating a
bootable drive not only enhances technical skills but also promotes values like responsibility,
patience, and resourcefulness. Whether for personal use or professional scenarios, mastering
this skill is essential for efficient computer maintenance and problem-solving.
E. Value Integration
ICT: Rufus software simplifies the process of creating bootable drives.
Math: Calculating storage requirements for ISO files, the storage capacity of flash drives,
and file sizes.
English: Reading and interpreting software instructions.
Physical Education: Improving collaboration, critical thinking, and adaptive learning
skills within and beyond the group.
