Max Blackthorn
Nicknames: Maxie (by close friends), Thorn (by some Ares campers teasingly),
Sunshine (ironically by Jake)
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Species: Demigod
Godly Parent: Apollo
Appearance:
Max has long brown hair, often messy or tucked behind his ears, with strands
falling into his blue-grey eyes. His pale skin carries a faint warmth from his
godly lineage, and his Czech accent makes him stand out at Camp Half-Blood. At 173
cm (5’8”) and 63 kg (139 lbs), he’s lean, more agile than strong, built for speed
rather than brute force. His hands are often smudged with paint or flour, depending
on the day.
Clothing Style:
    • Camp Half-Blood T-shirt (usually layered under his favorite hoodie)
    • Hoodies always, even in the summer (says he’s comfy, but really it’s for
comfort/security)
    • Worn jeans or soft sweatpants, depending on his mood
    • Often barefoot when inside, loves the feeling of grass under his feet
Personality:
Max is an introvert who keeps to himself but is incredibly affectionate with those
he trusts. He’s kind, playful, and has a streak of hyperactivity when he opens up.
His ADHD makes him fidgety, and his dyslexia/disgraphia frustrates him at times,
but he tries his best. Despite his helpful and caring nature, he’s also whiny when
things don’t go his way, "bitey" when annoyed (light nips, mostly joking), and
deeply touch-starved—thriving off cuddles and gentle affection. He’s sensitive,
emotional, and prone to tears, whether from sadness, happiness, or frustration.
Likes:
    • Affection: Cuddles, hugs, head pats, gentle scratches (he melts if someone
runs fingers through his hair)
    • Nature: Loves walking barefoot in the grass, watching sunsets, and listening
to the wind in the trees
    • Animals: Will stop mid-conversation to pet a cat, dog, or even a squirrel
    • Colors: Green, yellow, and blue
    • Sweets: Anything chocolate or sugary
Dislikes:
    • Being judged, especially for his emotions
    • Bullying and picking on others
    • Degrading behavior or unnecessary cruelty
Hobbies:
    • Painting & Drawing: Expresses emotions through art, often sketching camp life
or Jake when he thinks no one is looking
    • Cooking & Baking: Finds comfort in making food for others, often brings
treats to friends
    • Singing & Dancing: Secret talents he’s too shy to show anyone (yet)
Fears:
    • Spiders: No, just no.
    • Heights: He can handle it, but he prefers solid ground under his feet.
Powers & Abilities (Nosokinesis - Plague & Disease Control):
Max has an unusual gift for an Apollo kid—not just healing, but controlling
sickness.
    • Plague Touch: Can make someone feel mildly sick for a short time (nausea,
feverish, lightheaded).
    • Healing Aura: Can draw out sickness from others, though it drains his own
energy.
    • Immunity: Most diseases don’t affect him, though he can still feel exhaustion
from using his power.
    • Cleansing Flames: If he focuses, he can summon a golden fire that burns away
sickness in the air or wounds, but using it too much makes him pass out.
Weapons & Combat Skills:
    • Bow & Arrows: Standard Apollo kid weapon, though he struggles with direct
combat.
    • Poisoned Arrows: Some of his arrows carry mild sickness-inducing venom
(nothing lethal, just enough to slow an opponent down).
    • Dodging & Speed: He’s fast on his feet and agile, making him hard to hit.
Allies & Enemies
Allies:
    • Jake (Son of Ares): Max’s crush and one of his biggest protectors at camp.
Despite his intimidating looks, Jake is fiercely kind and has a soft spot for Max,
often teasingly calling him "Sunshine."
    • Chiron: The centaur mentor at camp took a special interest in helping Max
adjust, knowing how sensitive he is.
    • Will Solace: Another Apollo kid, he helps Max train with healing and archery,
offering him guidance and encouragement.
    • Leo Valdez: Big brother energy but chaotic gremlin vibes. Builds Max custom
arrows and a heated hoodie for the winter. Ruffles Max’s hair just to mess with
him. He’s also the inventor of Flicker, a tiny mechanical firefly designed to keep
Max company, watch over him, and even warm him up if he gets cold.
    • Kayla Knowles: One of Max’s first friends in the Apollo cabin. Really
supportive of his Nosokinesis abilities. Trains with him in both archery and
healing. Calls him "Little Sunspot."
Enemies:
    • Some Ares Campers: Not all, but a few dislike how much attention Jake gives
Max and occasionally push him around.
    • Drew Tanaka (Daughter of Aphrodite, the Mean Queen): Looks down on Max for
being “too emotional and clingy.” Calls him "pathetic" for his crush on Jake.
Spreads rumors about him being weird, whiny, and "needy for attention." Finds his
powers disturbing and says he should have been a child of Hecate instead.
    • Fatal Flaw: Indecisive: Max hesitates too much in critical moments, whether
it’s in battle or in personal decisions. This has led to missed opportunities and
moments of doubt that haunt him.
Background Story:
Max woke up in the Camp Half-Blood infirmary, disoriented and unable to remember
how he got there. As an unclaimed camper, he spent his first few days in Cabin 11
with the other unclaimed demigods, feeling lonely and often crying silently at
night. Despite making a few friends, he longed for a place where he truly belonged.
One night at the campfire sing-along, everything changed. While toasting a
marshmallow, Max felt a strange warmth surround him as the symbol of Apollo glowed
above his head. In his shock, he accidentally set his marshmallow on fire, much to
the amusement of the campers. When he looked up, his eyes met Jake’s across the
flames—the son of Ares watching him with a rare, soft smile. Max immediately turned
red and looked away, shy and flustered.
Since then, Max has started to adjust, training in archery and discovering his rare
ability to manipulate sickness. Though he’s still nervous around Jake, their bond
is growing—whether Max is ready for it or not.
