My most cherished item
My most recently purchased device is my laptop, which my dad bought a few years ago for
academic purposes that I hope to fulfill. It works efficiently and has so many uses I can't help but
feel blessed to have it.
The first thing I do after I get home from school is turn on my laptop. My school has its own
website and virtual classroom that I can access easily. Whenever I feel the offered materials
aren't enough, I can just search for help with my assignments on other academic pages.
Needless to say, I don’t just use it for school. There are several activities I can do with my laptop,
and I make great use of the advantages this device hands me. For example, I am currently
listening to music on a website, and writing this text in another. I love talking with my friends in
the mornings at school, and I can continue doing that by chatting with them on social media! I
hate to admit I have spent ridiculous amounts of time doing that.
To conclude, my laptop is an incredible tool I am so grateful to have. I use it every day and try to
take advantage of all that it offers. I truly wish everybody could access to this technological
device and its benefits.

Many of my friends have families who’ve originated from other places, and I’m no exception:
I’m a teenager living in Lima, but I was born in Trujillo, where the rest of my family is from. I
have a lot of relatives, most of them social butterflies, so there have always been a lot of parties.
Since my parents and I lived far away, we couldn’t attend most of them, but I have beautiful
memories of the ones we could.
My mother has always tried to make me grow strong bonds with my family, no matter the
distance between us. We visited more frequently when I was a little kid; now, not so much. We
all have very busy agendas that complicate travelling. Back then, I was very close with my
cousin, and our dynamic was very similar to siblings. We used to do everything together and
played tons of video games. Time grew us apart, and the awkwardness of our teenage years made
us lose that connection we had.
Back in Lima, I used to go to a school that was a bit far from my home. I had to take a taxi every
day to get there, and I used to wake up very early. I don’t do that now; I’ve moved places and
changed schools, so now I can get there by walking and sleeping a little while in the mornings.
Since I was very young, I didn’t need to study on Saturdays, so I could enjoy my whole weekend
without worrying about homework. However, I did attend afternoon classes to prepare for math
competitions. I only did this for a few months; I got eliminated in the first round of the first
contest I had ever attended. This was a shock to eight-year-old me, so I promised myself I would
never participate in those again. Six years later, I have broken that promise. I’ve become more
ambitious and applied to several contests of different themes.
There are many things about my past that I cherish and others that I certainly don’t want to
remember, but I feel at peace with all my previous decisions. I understand that each one of them
has helped me become who I am today, and if I could go back, I wouldn’t change one thing.
