A Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics 1
Prepared by: Charisma L. Cabria
Content Standard: The learners demonstrate understanding of telling time to the nearest minute and measure
time intervals in minutes.
Performance Standard: The learner is able to tell and write the time using analog clock.
4th Quarter / Week 2 / Day 3
Method: Deductive method
l. Learning objectives
By the end of the lesson, the learners are expected to:
Determine the difference between hour hand and minute hand.
Interpret the time using an analog clock
Show the importance of time.

A. Presenting the new lesson
1. Motivation
Do you have clocks at home? Yes, Ma’am!
Do you know how to tell a time? Yes, Ma’am!
Very good!
May I ask everybody to stand up and let us sing a song.
Twelve o’clock Tick-tock!
Did you guys have fun with the song?
B. Presentation
Today, we will be talking about time. How to tell time using a
clock, and identify the difference of the minute hand and the
hour hand.
What is a time?
Time tells us when things happen and how long they take.
It helps us know when to wake up, eat, play, and sleep.
How do we measure a time?
- We measure it using a clock.
What is a clock?
- A clock is a device used to measure a time.
There are two kinds of clocks:
⏰ Analog clock – has hands that move around a circle.
🕒 Digital clock – shows numbers to tell time.
There are two kinds of clocks:
Analog clock
The time is indicated through the position of a
rotating hand.
- Digital clock
A digital device that displays the time automatically.
Where is the analog clock and digital clock on the picture?
Very good!
Since digital clock is easier to use than the analog clock, let us
learn how to use the analog clock
The analog clock has 2 hands. The longer hand is the minute
hand and the shorter one is the hour hand.
How to tell a time using an analog clock?
Here are the steps to follow.
1. look at where the short hand is pointing out.
2. draw a 2 dots (:)
3. write what the long hand is pointing out.
- remember, the gap between the number on the clock is
equal to 5 minutes. (use the picture above as an illustration)
Examples:
If the clock tells 7:30 the short hand is pointing at 7 and the long
hand is pointing at 6.
The time is 7:30 or "seven thirty" or half past 7 o'clock.
In reading the time, we always read first the short hand (hour
hand) followed by reading the long hand (minute hand).
How many hours in 1 day?
How many minutes are there in the an hour?
The 24 hours of the day are divided into two periods: Each period
consists of 12 hours.
Lets try by this examples:
C.Application
Puzzle Matching: Try to Tell the Time
The teacher divides the class into three groups. Each group
has to try to tell the time through a matching puzzle.
D. Generalization
Kids, did you learn something today?
So what is a time?
How do we measure a time?
What type of clock that has a two rotating hands?
What type of clock that displays a time automatically?
Excellent kids!
E. Evaluation
Try this on your seat.
Draw the hands of the clock using the time written below.
B. Match the time from column A to column B.
