➢ Useful in an acute attack situation for home self use.

➢ Having a nebulizer at home is a psychological support

to the patient that effective help is at hand.

➢ Some very severe asthmatics get more relief with

nebulized medicines as compared to the usual inhaler
devices
DISADVANTAGES OF NEBULIZATION

➢ The cost of treatment goes up considerably. If the same

usual asthma medication by inhaler is about 6 rupees a
day, by nebulizer it would cost 160 to 80 rupees a day.
For a few day's treatment that would not matter much.
But for long term treatment it would be a concern for
most.

➢ There are chances of carrying the infection from

unsterile chambers of tubings into the lungs, especially
with long teren use.

procedure.
➢ Place the face mask which covers nose and mouth and
instruct child to take deep breath.

➢ During the procedure:

➢ Switch on the nebulizer and observe patency of tube
which is connected to nebulizer.

➢ Administer nebulization therapy for 10 to 5 minutes and

observe the child for any side effects and note the time of
starting the therapy.

➢ Turn off the nebulizer when the patients treatment is over

or while child feels coughing.

➢ Asthalin respirator solution : used medicine or drugs of list

out the listening choice to treat the respiratory disorders
➢ which contain names of salbutamol.

After the procedure:-

➢ Provide the child a comfortable position and encourage to
cough out.

➢ Check the breath sound of the child by auscultation (post-

observation) If perspiration is present wipe the Childs face
with clean soft face towel.

➢ Wash and replace all the articles and keep them ready for
the next use. Record the procedure and vital signs in
nurse's notes and report to the staff nurse incharge.

How to clean:

After each use the device must be cleaned.

Dis-assemble the mouth piece, nose piece or face mask

from cap, open nebulizer cup and remove baffle

Wash all the items, except tubing in a hot water/detergent

solution, rinse under the hot tap waler remove detergent
residue. Allow to air dry on clean paper.

Keep the outer surface of the tubbing dust free by wiping

regularly with the clean dry cotton swat once in a day.
Nebulizer tubbing does not have to be washed because
only filtered a passes though it.

Use a dry clean cloth to clean the outer part of the

nebulizer

Compressor cleaning:

With power switch in the "off" position, unplug power

cord from wall out-let Wipe outside of the compressor
cabinet with clean damp cloth dry cotton to keep dust-free
Important safe guards:

* The nebulizer must not be touched with wet or soaked

hands.

No smoking, no sparks around the electrical equipment.

Do not pour medication solution more than 10ml into the

jet nebulizer/medication cup.

Complication:

1.Palpitations

2. Tachycardia

3.Headache

4.Nausea
SUMMARY :
At the end of clinical teaching we
summarize our topic. We discuss about the meaning of
nebulization, indication and contra indications, advantages and
disadvantages, procedure of nebulization.

CONCLUSION :
Nebulization therapy is the most preferred and effective method
in the treatment of children with respiratory problems, because it
sends medications directly into the deep parts of the respiratory
tract The cleaning of instrument, dose of medicine and steps of
the procedure should be care full followed Follow the
instructions given by the physician/pediatrician. So far we have
learned about the definition of the nebulization therapy,
nebulizer and its parts, purpose, indication, contra-indications,
complications, drugs used, procedure, cleaning the equipments
and important safe guards about nebulization therapy.
