UNION
The European Union is a political and economic union of 27 countries.
Some of them have in common the euro currency.
European Institutions
In the European Institutions determinate
the EU‘s political direction. They control
the Central Bank: controls the euro. The
European Parlament: prepare and pass the
law. The European Council: decisions about
general issues. The European commissions:
propose new laws and administer the
budget. The Council of the European Union:
discusses new laws and coordinates policy.
The Court of Justice of the European Union:
make sure that EU laws and policies are
implemented in each member state.
5 aims of the EU
One of the main aims of the EU is to prevent
war.
EU countries work together to have good
relations, security and peace.
The EU promotes solidary between
countries.
The EU is committed to respecting human
rights, taking care of the environment.
And share technological advances between
member countries.
History of the EU
The begining of everything was the European Coal and Steel
Comunity in 1952. The first 6 members were Italy, France,
Belgium, Luxemburgo, Netherlands and West Germany.
After that, the treaty of Rome was signed in 1957 which
removed some barriers to the importation and exportation.
Other countries joined in 1973, some others in 1981 and other
in 1986 like Spain. The name was change to the E.U in
Maastricht in 1992. In 2002 the euro was introduced. In 2004,
2007 and 2013 more countries joined. In 2016 the UK left the
E.U, event that is known as the Brexit.
The single market
In the single market of the EU people,
services, products and money can move
with freedom from one member
country to another. Complains and
people can import and export their
goods without paying taxes.
