Good morning, class! This morning, we are going to tackle a new topic.

To start off, let me ask


you a simple question. What will you do if you want to stay healthy, or you want to be physically
fit or lose some weight?

Students: Exercise, Ma’am

Yes, Very good. Exercise. One thing you would opt to do to be physically fit is to do some
exercises, doing workouts or going outside to jog or run and even go to the gym. Doing these
activities are literally physically demanding. While those are great options, however—not
everyone enjoys going outside and would rather stay inside their house.

Now class, staying fit doesn’t always have to involve traditional workouts. One enjoyable and
effective way to stay active is through dance. Dance is another indoor alternative recreation, so
it can be done inside our houses or in any indoor venues. Dancing is a fun and enjoyable
exercise and a great workout that improves our overall well-being. If you want to stay healthy
and be physically fit and at the same time enjoy and have fun, dancing is a good answer for
that. One way to enjoy and have fun while trying to be active, healthy and physically fit is to try
the Zumba Fitness Dance.

Zumba-is a dance-based, cardio workout program that blends Latin and international music with
energetic dance moves. It is designed for everyone, what I mean by everyone, is regardless of
your age, gender, body types and dance experience.

It was accidentally discovered by a Columbian fitness trainor named Alberto “ Berto” Perez in
the mid 90’s. What happened that time was he was about to teach aerobics class when he
realized that he forgot to bring the music that he was supposed to use during that class. What
he did instead he used any available music he had that time and that latin music.

Why should you dance zumba?

1. Improves cardiovascular health- zumba involves a lot of movement and because of this
it gradually raises heart rate and improves blood circulation which helps strengthen your
heart and lungs.
2. It helps in losing weight- since it is an energetic dance and involves a lot of movements,
it helps in burning calories effectively.
3. Relieves stress- dancing to upbeat music releases endorphins or what we call happiness
hormones, which helps reduce stress and anxiety.
4. Improves mood-
5. It tones the abdominals- zumba involves a variety of movements which engages your
core muscles or abdominal muscles, which can help to tone and strengthen your abs.

Zumba involves a combination of latin dances such as Salsa, Samba, Reggaeton, Merengue,
Cumbia, Cha-cha-cha, Mambo, Rumba, Flamenco. This latin dances has distinct characteristics
and its more on energetic, lively and expressive movements.
