(Matilda visits the library, greeted by Mrs. Phelps.)
MRS. PHELPS: Ah, Matilda! Back for more books?
MATILDA: Yes, please! Do you have any Dickens?

(Matilda smiles as she picks up a book and starts reading aloud.)

(Miss Trunchbull looms over a trembling student.)
TRUNCHBULL: You! What are you doing out of line?
STUDENT: I-I just needed to tie my shoe, Miss Trunchbull.
TRUNCHBULL: Shoes? Shoes don’t matter! What matters is obedience! Detention for a week!
(Matilda and Lavender watch from a distance, horrified.)
LAVENDER: She’s awful! How can we stop her?
MATILDA: We’ll have to find a way. No one deserves this.

MISS HONEY: That’s… incredible, Matilda! How did you know that?
MATILDA: Numbers just make sense to me. I love learning.
MISS HONEY: You’re very special, Matilda. I wish I could do more to help you grow.
(Matilda and Miss Honey exchange hopeful smiles.)

CHALKBOARD (writing by itself): Agatha Trunchbull, your wicked days are over.
(Trunchbull screams and runs off as the students cheer.)
Scene 7: Miss Honey’s Cottage
(Matilda visits Miss Honey, who reveals her tragic past.)

(Mr. Wormwood rushes in, panicked.)
MR. WORMWOOD: We have to leave, Matilda! The police are after me!

(They rush out, and Miss Honey embraces Matilda.)
Final Scene: Matilda’s New Home
