Act 1: A Choice in Athens

(The scene opens with Theseus and Hippolyta discussing their wedding. Egeus enters with
Hermia, Demetrius, and Lysander.)

Theseus: Welcome, Egeus. What brings you here today?

Egeus: My lord, my daughter Hermia refuses to marry Demetrius, the man I’ve chosen for
her. She insists on loving Lysander.

Theseus: (To Hermia) Hermia, your father’s choice is the law. What do you say?

Hermia: I beg your pardon, my lord, but I love Lysander.

Theseus: You must obey your father or face the consequences. You have until my wedding
day to decide.

(Theseus and Hippolyta leave.)

Lysander: Don’t worry, Hermia. We’ll run away to the forest where we can live freely.

Hermia: Yes, Lysander. Let’s leave tonight.

(Helena enters as Hermia and Lysander leave.)

Helena: (To herself) Why does Demetrius love Hermia and not me? If I tell Demetrius about
their plan, maybe he’ll finally notice me.
(Scene ends.)

Act 2: The Magical Forest

(Setting: The forest. Oberon and Titania are arguing about a silly matter.)

Oberon: Titania, you always get your way. This time, I’ll play a trick on you.

Titania: Do as you wish, but I won’t change my mind.

(Titania leaves. Oberon calls Puck.)

Oberon: Puck, fetch the magic flower. Its juice makes anyone fall in love with the first
person they see. We’ll use it to fix these mortals’ messy love stories—and teach Titania a
lesson.

(Puck nods mischievously and exits.)

Act 3: Mischief and Magic

(In the forest, Hermia and Lysander rest. Puck mistakenly sprinkles the magic flower’s juice
on Lysander instead of Demetrius.)
Puck: This must be the Athenian man! Now he’ll love the right girl.

(Helena appears, chasing Demetrius.)

Helena: Stop running from me, Demetrius!

(Lysander wakes and sees Helena.)

Lysander: (Suddenly) Helena! You are the one I truly love!

Helena: (Confused) Are you mocking me?

(Hermia wakes and sees Lysander talking to Helena.)

Hermia: Lysander, what’s happening? Why are you leaving me for Helena?

Lysander: I don’t love you anymore, Hermia. Helena is my heart.

(Hermia and Helena argue. Puck watches, laughing.)

Act 4: Setting Things Right

(Oberon notices the chaos.)

Oberon: Puck, you’ve caused more trouble than I intended! Fix this immediately.

(Puck sprinkles the magic flower on Lysander again while he sleeps. Titania’s enchantment
is also reversed.)

Titania: (Waking) What a strange dream! I thought I loved a silly man with a donkey’s head!

Oberon: All is well now, my queen. Let’s enjoy the peace of the forest.

Act 5: A Joyful Ending

(Everyone returns to Athens. Theseus declares that Hermia and Lysander, and Demetrius
and Helena, may marry the ones they truly love.)

Theseus: Let the celebrations begin!

(Bottom and his friends perform a humorous play for the wedding. Puck ends the story.)

Puck: If this story has confused you, think of it as a dream. Goodnight to you all!

(Curtain closes.)
