LANGUAGE ARTS SHOW

(Oratorical Piece)

WORDS ARE MIGHTIER THAN SWORDS! Such a cliché, an influential and puissant line that even time itself
could never repeal.
Highly esteemed members of the board of adjudicators, fellow orators, organizers of this contest of eloquence,
friends, ladies and gentlemen, a pleasant day to us all.
For the past years our land has been bombarded with much adversity and tribulation that could almost steal our
desires and restraints to survive. We are being pushed to the limits of our existence, trampled to the ground of
hopelessness, weakened to the clamor of unity and deprived to the possession of peace.
Differences in beliefs, diverseness in conviction, multiplicity of action all down to two things. The inability of
everyone to understand and accept individuals’ beliefs and conviction and the unwillingness to be open-minded in
others’ ideals and actions.
As a young citizen, I have always dream of a serene life, surrounded with reasonable ideals and axiom and
nurtured with love and compassion. But instead, what laid before my very eyes? Savagery and brutality of men!
Why these? Why do we allow all these to destroy us? Why such animosity in the land? Why not embrace passion
rather than hatred, goodwill rather than grudges and warmth rather than bitterness? Our perspective of what is good
and right has been changed and unfortunately, we are to be blamed. Whether we like or not, the reality is already
laid before us, these changes, these changes have corrupted our sound and moral identity and principle.
Ladies and gentlemen, behold our dear land……look….look around us….let us contemplate the current scenario of
what we have. Look at those people who rise power to bespeak their ideals, those who initiated social mutiny and
rebellion, can they be considered procreator of peace? Never did self-assertion beget peace and never did offensive
aggression result to unity!
From the gigantic social dispute to family dilemma down to our very own self-conflict and confusion, each account
told a legendary anecdote of the GONE PEACE!
Yes, the call for peace and unity is but a dream so impossible!
However, let us not conclude our existence with bare misery. Apart from all these catastrophic circumstances and
nationwide peace struggle, there is still this little, tiny spark of hope. All we have to do is to kindle it using a
powerful weapon we called voice. Yes, let our tiny voices be heard, let these voices utter the call of time, let us
pronounce the urgency of claiming peace and unity. Why resolve disagreement to unjust conflict and hostilities
when meaningful and peaceful discussion is merely attainable? Why use force instead of good exchange of ideas?
Why not engrave peace in the silver lining where everyone be given the freedom to express himself without
misjudgments?
I do not want to see that my dream of peace and tranquility and unity amidst diversity will be just and forever be a
dream.
Who will act for peace to be realized? IF NOT US, THEN WHO?
When will we take action for this to be realized? IF NOT NOW, THEN WHEN?
So, let us start propagating peace in this diverse world of impossibilities by our words, our actions, our passion and
dedication. Let us initiate peace from ourselves and thus, making it perceived and multiplied to others. Our words
could be our means to promote peace. With this, we could possibly spell the difference between right and wrong,
success and failure because simple words may lead to knowledge and knowledge leads to power.
Yes, the power to be in control of our actions that would lead to a remarkable equilibrium between humanity’s
search for peace and unity.
WORDS ARE MY WEAPON!
THIS IS MY CALL. THIS IS MY ACTION.
WHAT’S YOURS?
