Most Lesson 9: Setting Up Computer Networks(SUCN)
Essential
Learning LO.1. Install Network Cables
Competency -
1. Obtain necessary network materials in accordance with established procedures and
(MELC)
check against system requirements
2. Obtain tools, equipment, and testing devices in accordance with established
procedures
TLE_IACSS9-12SUCN-IVa-j-33
Specific Objectives: At the end of the lesson the learners are expected to;
A. Knowledge: enumerate the materials needed in making LAN cable
B. Psychomotor: obtain the tools, equipment and testing device and
other network materials needed in making a LAN cable
C. Affective: Check religiously the materials and tools needed in
accordance with established procedures
Content Patch Cable Making
Learning LAS in CSS9, CG, MELC in CSS9
Resources
Procedures:
A. Introductory activity
● Opening Prayer.
● Setting the classroom environment (arranging the chairs, checking if the
classroom is clean and orderly).
● Ensuring a safe learning environment for everyone. Giving of New Normal
classroom rules.
● Checking of attendance.
● Stating the objectives of the lesson.
● Activating Prior Knowledge:
Check Homework:
1. Enumerate the materials needed in making a LAN network cable.
B. Activity
1. Drills/Activity:
Name each tool/ materials, testing device and other equipment used in making a patch
cable.
C. Analysis: Probing Questions/ Guide Questions
Why do we need these tools in making a patch cable?
Can we use a substitute materials if the specific tool is not available in the
community?
D. Abstraction
NETWORK MATERIALS NEEDED FOR LAN CABLING
CAT5- an Ethernet Cable Category 5. A network cabling
material that consists of four twisted pair of copper wire
terminated by an RJ-45. It has a maximum length of
100m, exceeding this length without the aid of the bridge
or other network device could cause network issues.
CAT6- Category 6. A network cabling material that
consist of four twisted pair wire. It has a data rate of
10000 Mbps. It is used in Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet.
Crimping tool- a device used to conjoin two pieces of
metal by deforming one or both of them in a way that
causes to hold each other. Crimp-the result of the tool’s
work.
UTP Wire stripper- Strip cables and wires quickly and
efficiently. Multiple functions and compact size economize
on space and eliminate the need for extra tools. Each tool
design is compatible with several different cable types
Perfect for computer network, telephone and Cable TV
installers.
Cable Tester- a device that is used to test the strength and
connectivity of a particular type of cable.
RJ-45 connector- is a standardized physical network
interface commonly used for connecting computers onto
Ethernet-based local area networks (LAN).
Vocabulary:
RJ – 45 =Registered Jack. is a standardized network interface used
for network cabling, wiring and jack construction.(https://www.techopedia.com)
CAT5/6 = Category 5/6. is a twisted pair cable for computer networks.

E. Application
Let the students name each tool and materials needed for LAN Cabling.
Give the function of each tool or material.
F. Assessment
Matching type: Match the descriptions in column A with the pictures in column B. Write
your answer on your paper.
Column A Column B
1. Use to crimp a.
2. Use to test the strength of the cable b.
3. Physical network interface c.
4. Used in Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet d.
5. Strip cables and wires quickly e.
Answer key: 1. D 2. C 3. A 4. E 5. B
G. Assignment
Research:
1. What is straight-through cable? What are the colors in terminal A & B in
this type of cable?
2. What is cross-over cable? What are the colors in terminal A & B in this
type of cable?
G. Concluding Activity
“Networking that matters is helping people achieve their goals.” - Seth Godin
Remarks Indicate below special cases including but not limited to continuation of lesson plan to the
following day in case of re-teaching or lack of time, transfer of lesson to the following day, in
cases of classes suspension, etc.
Reflection Reflect on your teaching and assess yourself as a teacher. Think about your student’s progress
this week. What works? What else needs to be done to help the students learn? Identify
what help your instructional supervisors can provide for you so when you meet them, you can
ask them relevant questions. Indicate below whichever is/are appropriate.
