Story 2: The Silent Witness
When journalist Mark Reynolds was assigned to cover a small-town robbery case, he never
expected it to turn into a murder investigation. The town’s most respected businessman,
Robert Langley, was found dead in his office, and the only witness was his parrot, Jasper.
The police were baffled. The office had been locked from the inside, and nothing appeared
stolen. Yet, Langley had been poisoned. The detective in charge dismissed the case as an
unfortunate accident, but Mark felt there was more to the story.
Mark visited Langley’s home and found Jasper in his cage, occasionally muttering words.
"No... no... stop..." the parrot repeated in a hushed tone.
Intrigued, Mark played an audio recording of Langley’s voice. Jasper immediately responded,
"It was... it was..."
"It was what, Jasper?" Mark urged.
After hours of patient listening, Mark pieced together the words Jasper had learned. "It was
Harold! No! Stop!"
Harold was Langley’s longtime business partner. When confronted, Harold crumbled under
pressure. He had poisoned Langley over a financial dispute, never suspecting that the parrot
would reveal his crime. Thanks to Jasper, the silent witness, justice was served.
