Applications:
determination of K, U, Th concentrations and natural gamma dose rate, spectral measurements with
identification of radiation sources for mineral and raw material (uranium) prospecting, environmental monitoring,
geological mapping, laboratory assays, industrial and health care purposes.
Gamma Surveyor II
represents super compact 1024-channel geophysical spectrometer for all kinds of radiation measurements like field, borehole, carborne
and submarine survey, laboratory assays and industrial monitoring. Due to long experience in gamma-ray analyzers and continuous
scientific and technical development (that allow keeping leading position) GF Instruments now offers unique efficient technique of spectral
evaluation with fast energy stabilization working sensitively and reliably in wide range of natural gamma dose rates. These main new
features are completed with traditionally effective, simple and transparent way of operation.

Technical Specifications:
Measuring Modes:
Spectrum & Assay - spectral measurements with determination of concentrations of K, U, Th (%, ppm, ppm) and of natural gamma dose rate (nGy/h or nSv/h)
according to IAEA, with spectrum view (library of 19 isotopes) and with selectable measuring time (typ. 3 min)
Dose Rate - measurement of natural gamma dose rate (nGy/h or nSv/h) according to IAEA with selectable measuring time (typ. 10 s)
Search - quick search of anomalies with 0.05 s response time, cps histogram and loud pitch audio indication (typ. 90 dB at loudspeaker) with adjustable cps range
and threshold

Detector:
Scintillation Bismuth Germanate Oxide (BGO) detector of 1.2 in³ (20 cm³) volume together with GF Instruments unique evaluation technology allow reaching quite
comparable performance as 6.3 in³ (103 cm³) size used in classic Gamma Surveyor or in similar products. (This situation can be compared with size of lens used
in classic and compact photo cameras.)
However, Gamma Surveyor II equipped with 6.3 in³ (103 cm³) BGO is available now as well. This assembly brings about 4-5 times better performance
(accuracy of assay results reached at the same measuring time) as other products on the market equipped with detectors of the same volume.

Spectral Analyzer:
1024 channels, 30 keV - 3 MeV energy range, conversion rate 250,000 pulses per second with zero dead time

Measuring Time:
Spectrum & Assay - selectable from 10 s (for higher detector volume) to 20 min (for collimator); usual 3 min time is used with standard 1.2 in³ BGO detector.
Typical assay results (low radioactivity example) for 3 min measuring time are as follows: 2.3 ± 0.14 % K, 2.7 ± 0.8 ppm U, 9.4 ± 1.5 ppm Th.
Dose Rate - selectable from 1 s to 2 min; usual time of 10 s is used with standard 1.2 in³ BGO detector.
Optimum needed measuring time must be chosen according to required accuracy of results and to estimated concentration levels of K, U, Th.

Calibration:
Factory calibration is made on high-volume K, U, Th and background standards according to IAEA recommendation (International Atomic Energy Agency).
Two user calibrations (e.g. for external probe or collimator) can be used.

Control System:
Single button user-friendly operation - with simple possibility both to complete file headline or individual readings with comments and to change settings
with use of small keyboard
Display - LCD with 128 x 64 pixels, two levels of white backlight
Acoustic output - built-in loudspeaker (typ. 90 dB) or external Bluetooth earphones, adjustable cps range and threshold of acoustic pitch response
Memory - up to 100 files with 400,000 full spectra and assay results and practically infinite number of dose rate readings
GPS connectivity - Bluetooth or RS232 wired, NMEA protocol (4800 Bd, GGA sentence); most frequent models made by Garmin and Trimble were tested
for compatibility.
Firmware is upgradeable via internet.

Data Management and Export:

Each measured file identified with file number, time of measurement, instrument serial number (automatically included) and complete headline (when entered by
operator) is stored in memory of Gamma Surveyor II. This information serves for reliable data management (storage and processing) after data download from
instrument. ASCII lines with MS Excel compatible structure consist of columns with results, GPS coordinates and comments. Gamma Surveyor II PC software
provides data export of chosen results for processing by e.g. Surfer or Geosoft SW with either latitude / longitude or UTM coordinates.

PC Connectivity:
Gamma Surveyor II PC software made by GF Instruments for Windows based PCs provides data download, export of measured files and visualization of spectra.
The system contains complete support for data transfer using USB port or USB flash disk.

Power Supply:
Rechargeable exchangeable Li-Ion battery, immediately ready to use, provides 24 - 32 h working time (influenced by backlight and external probe use)
from one charging with minimum capacity loss at low temperature.
Auxiliary power supply provided from 6 AA cells (single use or NiMh), external 12 V car battery or AC/DC adapter can be used when needed.
No data or firmware are damaged by random disconnecting of power supply.

Dimensions and Weight:

92 x 68 x 280 mm, probe ∅50 mm, 1.4 kg with Li-Ion battery and without accessories

Ambient Operating Conditions:

Temperature range - from -10 to + 50 °C
Protection - water proof against long submersion at 1 m depth (IP68); lightweight, small size and rugged design completed with PUR protective boot make risk
of detector damage negligible.
