He led the Republican Party from 1901-1909
He earned the 1906 Nobel Peace Prize for mediating the Russo-
Japanese War
Roosevelt is the youngest U.S. President, starting at 42 years old
He was shot during a Milwaukee campaign in 1912 but refused
to go to the hospital until after he finished his speech
Ran for President on a Progressive ticket in 1912
Died at age 60 due to a blood clot lodged in his heart
Strong believer in law enforcement

Political Career
   Elected to the New York State Assembly in 1881
   Appointed as U.S. Civil Service commissioner in 1889
   Became police commissioner of NYC in 1895
   Elected as governor of New York
   Was nominated as Republican vice president under
   William McKinley
   After McKinleys assassination, Roosevelt took over as
   president of the United States
Spanish-American War
  Shipped off to Cuba in 1898 as a
  lieutenant colonel in the army
  Fought alongside and led the
  ‘Rough Riders’ in the war
  He returned home victorious
  and became a war hero

Ensured the construction of the Panama Canal for
a shortcut between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans
Led the Great White Fleet
Led the Rough Riders into Cuba

 Expanded and restricted the U.S. Navy
 to control critical sea lanes and destroy
 rival fleets. He led the Great White
 Fleet, which sailed around the world
 from 1907-1909 with 16 white-painted
 battleships. This act was intended to
 demonstrate the power of the Navy,
 promote diplomacy, and improve the

Executive Powers
 Roosevelt claimed presidential authorities not specified in
 the Constitution
 Insisted that a president can do anything he wants for the
 good of the people, unless strictly prohibited by the law

 Challeneged ideas of individualism and limited givernment
Executive Powers
 Use of executive order:
    forcibly acquired areas of land to double the
    number of national parks and reserves
 Use of presidential power of persuasion:
    settled a volatile coal strike by becoming part of
    the mediation
            My Opinion
   I think that Theodore Roosevelt was a good
president and did many beneficial things to help
        our country during his presidency.
