Course Materials
Recommended Text: Larson, R., Calculus Early Transcendental Functions (Seventh Edition).
Course Contents: Three-dimensional analytic geometry; vectors in space; partial differentiation; double
and triple integrals; integral vector calculus.
Prerequisite: Math 141 or Equivalent.
Course Mode
This is an in-person class. Class will not be streamed over Zoom or recorded and posted. Prior arrangements
made with Mr. Kramer may be considered, but are ultimately at the discretion of the instructor.
Course Objectives
By the end of the semester, students will be able to
• Understand and apply basic operations and measurements with vectors in two- and three- dimensions.
• Understand and represent curves in two- and three- dimensions using vector-valued functions. This
includes finding tangent and normal vectors.
• Compute and interpret partial and directional derivatives and use the results to find tangent planes,
find slope (when given a direction), and solve advanced optimization problems.
• Represent area and volume using iterated integrals and find said area/volume by converting to double
and/or triple integrals. This includes using alternative coordinate systems.
• Compute and interpret divergence and curl of a vector field when presented with a vector field.
• Determine if a given vector field is conservative, and if so, find a potential function.
• Understand and apply Green’s Theorem, The Divergence Theorem, and Stokes’ Theorem.

Assessment
Grades
Final grades will be determined by scores on homework, quizzes, exams, and a comprehensive final exam.
Your grade will be weighed in the following manner:
Homework & Quizzes 20%
Exams 60%
Final Exam 20%
For more information on a particular assignment, see Mr. Kramer or refer to Canvas.
Homework
Suggested homework problems will be posted to Canvas throughout the semester, the intention of these
problems is to practice the skills learned in-class in order to prepare for graded quizzes and/or midterms.
In the rare event that a homework assignment is assigned, collected, and graded, its score will be recorded
in the Quiz portion of the overall grade.
Midterms & Quizzes
Throughout the semester we will have several short quizzes and three midterm exams. These assessments
will cover concepts from the text, class discussions, and homework assignments.
Midterms and quizzes will be given in class only, and are expected to be worked and submitted in-class.
Arrangements for online or take-home midterms and quizzes will not be considered.
At least one of the lowest quiz scores will be dropped.
Should you need to miss a midterm or quiz for an approved absence, you must contact Mr. Kramer before
the start of the assessment, otherwise the midterm or quiz will be considered ’missed’ and a score of zero
will be given. Unless approved, any midterm or quiz for which you are not present, will be considered
’missed’ and a score of zero will be given.
In the event where you cannot be present for a midterm or quiz and prior arrangements were not made,
contact Mr. Kramer as soon as possible as cases may be considered on an individual basis.
Midterms and quizzes considered ’missed’ will receive a score of zero with no possibility to
earn back points.
Unless otherwise stated, the usage of any external resources or peers on quizzes and exams is a violation of
academic integrity and is strictly prohibited. Violators will receive a score of 0 on any assignment on which
external resources are used and will be reported to the Assistant Director for Academic Administration
for a violation of academic integrity.
After each assessment is returned you have five business days to see Mr. Kramer for any adjustments
which may need to be made in regards to your score. After this time, no grade changes will be made.
Final Exam
The final exam will be cumulative and will be given on Friday, August 11, 2023 in Nick 167 from 9:00 -
10:50 AM.

Policies and Procedures
Academic Integrity
Penn State defines academic integrity as “the pursuit of scholarly activity in an open, honest and respon-
sible manner” (Senate Policy 49-20).
Dishonesty of any kind will not be tolerated in this course. Dishonesty includes, but is not limited to cheat-
ing, plagiarizing, fabricating information or citations, facilitating acts of academic dishonesty by others,
unauthorized possession of quizzes/exams, submitting another person’s work as your own, reusing work
for another course without permission from the instructor, or tampering with grades or the academic work
of other students.
Students facing allegations of academic misconduct may not drop/withdraw from the course (see Senate
Policy G-9). Students who drop the course will be returned and expected to complete course work and
meet course deadlines until the allegations are dismissed and the drop is permitted. Students responsible
for academic misconduct often receive academic sanctions, which can be severe, and put themselves at
jeopardy for disciplinary sanctions assigned by the Office of Student Conduct (see Senate Policy G-9).
Unless your instructor tells you otherwise, to avoid plagiarism in this course always include an in-text
citation that includes the author(s) last name(s) and the year the source was published at the end of any
sentence or after any image that includes words or ideas you found in a source. Always include quoted
text within quotation marks, and always include a reference for any source at the end of your paper. Ask
your instructor about reference style as needed.
Sometimes students will seek help from other people or online tutoring, quizzing, studying, social media,
or information-sharing sites. Unless your instructor tells you otherwise, you must cite any information you
use from these sources to avoid plagiarism, even on exams. Using these sources when they are prohibited
may also constitute other academic integrity violations.
Unless your instructor tells you otherwise, you must complete all course work entirely on your own, and
you may not help other students with coursework.

Disability Accommodations
Penn State welcomes students with disabilities into the University’s educational programs. Every Penn
State campus has an office for students with disabilities. The Office for Disability Services (ODS) Web
site provides contact information for every Penn State campus: http://equity.psu.edu/ student-disability-
resources/campus-disability-coordinators. For further information, please visit the Office for Disability
Services Web site: http://equity.psu.edu/student-disability-resources.
In order to receive consideration for reasonable accommodations, you must contact the appropriate dis-
ability services office at the campus where you are officially enrolled, participate in an intake interview,
and provide documentation: http://equity.psu.edu/student-disability-resources/applying-for-services. If
the documentation supports your request for reasonable accommodations, your campus’s disability ser-
vices office will provide you with an accommodation letter. Please share this letter with your instructors
and discuss the accommodations with them as early in your courses as possible. You must follow this
process for every semester that you request accommodations.

Copyright of Course Materials
You may not share any information from this course (including notes and assignments) with others who
are not currently registered for the course, nor post such information electronically without the permission
of the instructor–this includes online note-taking/note-sharing services (See Penn State Administrative
Policy AD-40). Also prohibited in the policy is the posting of audio, video, or photographs posted to social
media sites or other publicly accessible resources. Unless you have my permission, you risk disciplinary
sanctions.
Masking Policy
Masks are not currently required at most campuses as they are located in counties with low or medium
COVID-19 Community Levels, according to the CDC.
At other Penn State campuses, face masks are optional in most indoor spaces. However, masks continue to
be required where mandated by law, regulation or rule - including under guidance particular to individual
workplaces or health care settings and COVID-19 testing centers.
Employees at Penn State who work in their own individual offices on mask-optional campuses may request
that visitors wear masks while in their private offices, and faculty may request that their students wear
masks during classes. The University asks that community members cooperate respectfully with these
requests.
Here is the University’s latest guidance related to masking in the pandemic: http://virusinfo.psu.edu/health-
guidelines/#masking.
