Mary Poppins
Have you ever read Mary Poppins? Or have you ever watched Mary Poppins? It is an
amazing book that is well known and beloved from all over the world. This novel is one of
my favorite books. I made the decision to suggest this book because I like to read classic
books with an element of fantasy in them. Furthermore, it is because Mary Poppins is so
famous that everyone has heard the name of this book at least once.
Mary Poppins is a fantasy story written by P.L.Travers in 1934. It is an old book that
contains classic and literary expressions in the original version. It is written in narrative,
third person narrator. The story is easy to understand for everybody even for children.
The Bank family live in the smallest house in Cherry-Tree Lane Seventeen. Mary Poppins
came when the wind blew to the east. She works as a householder of the Bank family, the
nanny of the children. The main characters are Mary Poppins, Jane and Michael. Jane is
the oldest sister who is kind and gentle.
Michael is on the other hand younger than Jane. Michael is interested in everything and he
is very childish. For instance when Mary Poppins offered him a spoon with medicine on it,
he would protest. Jane and Michael have younger twins and sometimes they are mentioned
in the story. For example, chapter 9 is a story about twins and the author gives us a lot of
important descriptions about them and their surrounding setting.
The protagonist called Mary Poppins is a strict and fearless woman but at the same time
most exciting. In chapter 1 , “There was something strange and extraordinary about her-
something that was frightening and at the same time most exciting”. This quote conveys
that Mary Poppins possesses a mysterious charm, but she is also fascinating.
Mary Poppins knows everything about the world. She knows what the wind and sun are
saying and she also understands every animal language. I really liked the setting where
everybody understands the Starling and the Wind, what the trees say and the language of
the sunlight and the stars at once. In chapter 9, “Really? You mean they understood the
Starling and the Wind and--” “And what the trees say and the language of the sunlight and
the stars - of course they did! Once,”. This is a conversation between the twins and Mary
Poppins. This scene means that when you are a child, you understood every language but
when you become older, you forget how to understand it. The reason why this passage is
my favorite is because it is pleasant, unbelievable and full of imagination.
