ARTICLE 1

1.0 TITLE
1.1 THE CONSTITUTION OF THE NIGERIAN INSTITUTE OF ARCHITECTS
1.2 The name of the organization is The Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA)
(hereinafter referred to as the Institute)

ARTICLE 2
2.0 AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
The aims and objectives of the Nigerian Institute of Architects are:
2.1 To advance architecture, and the promotion of the knowledge of its art and science in
theory and practice of design; erection, commissioning, maintenance and
management and co-ordination of allied professional inputs thereto of buildings, or

CLAUSE 26
26.0 AMENDMENTS TO THE BYE-LAWS

26.1 Clauses of the Bye-Laws may be amended by way of addition or omission by the
Executive Council in the manner prescribed in Article 28 of the NIA Constitution
provided that a notice of such amendment shall be given to the Honorary General
Secretary in writing not less than two months prior to the date of the Executive
Council meeting; and the resolution to amend shall have been carried by a simple
majority of the votes cast.

26.2 Upon receiving a notice to amend any clause(s) of the Bye-Laws, the Honorary
General Secretary shall promptly notify all members of the Executive Council and
shall prepare a report on such proposed amendment for presentation to the
subsequent Executive Council meeting and the proposal shall be placed on the
agenda.

26.3 Any amendment to the clauses of the Bye-laws shall be circulated to the State
Chapters and the generality of the membership of the Institute by the Honorary
General Secretary and shall take effect, three months thereafter, subject to the
provisions of Article 41 of the NIA Constitution.
