Description: Maintains operation of multi-user computer systems, including coordination of
infrastructure and cloud responsibilities. Develops and designs core operating system builds.
Responsible for coding, virtualization, and automation of systems. Sets up administrator and service
account, maintains an active directory of users and system documentation, tunes system performance,
installs system-wide software, and allocates mass storage space. Assesses and resolves user access
problems related to security controls to minimize business impact and risk exposure. Identifies and
evaluates vendor products and establishes vendor monitoring and tracking processes. Performs capacity
planning and monitors/tunes systems. Recommends appropriate platforms for purchase, coordinates
installation, and provides backup recovery. Serves as a point of escalation for major incidents that are
unresolved at the helpdesk level. Develops and monitors policies and standards for allocation related to
the use of computing resources. May draft general IT communications to end-users including
notifications of outages/downtimes.

In addition to the experience outlined in the qualifications section of the job post, experience is required
in:
• Strong experience with Linux as a desktop and server OS, including provisioning, securing, and
maintenance with an emphasis on CentOS, RHEL 8+, Rocky, and Ubuntu20+
• Administering and supporting Windows and MacOS desktop operating systems
• A focus on users with the ability to support developers and researchers with desktop configurations,
server installations, applications, and technologies
• Experience with system deployment to bare metal, VMware ESXi/vCenter, and AWS environments
using Foreman, kickstart, Ansible, packer, terraform
• Experience configuring and administering Foreman for Linux deployment and maintenance
• Experience with container technologies like Docker or Podman
• Scripting with UNIX shell and PowerShell
• Basic hardware deployment and repair experience with desktops, laptops, and servers
• Investigating and deploying new tools and technologies to improve services and support and enable
modern practices for research programs
• Working in an Active Directory or LDAP infrastructure and integrating with web applications using SSO
• Implementing compliance following NIST 800-171, CMMC, DISA STIG, or RMF requirements
• Experience administering and using GitLab, or other Continuous Integration services
• Experience working with GitHub, Atlassian suite (Jira, Confluence), Microsoft Office Suite (Word,
Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Outlook), SAP
• Ability to recommend hardware and software technology solutions, deploy, and maintain them
independently as well as with support of the IT team
• Working in a small team, wearing many hats
• Manage and prioritize long-term environment improvement projects concurrently with short term
support needs
• Candidates must be enthusiastic, innovative, and motivated self-starters able to work independently
to complete tasks and meet goals.
• Candidates must also be able to work within a team to achieve project success.
• Candidates must possess strong oral and written communications skills and must be able to present
findings/results to internal and external organizations.
Preferred Skills:
• Server and storage networking including management of DHCP, DNS, VLANs, firewalls, and TLS
• VMware ESXi and VCenter administration
• Deployment automation with automation tools such as Vagrant, Puppet, Chef, or cloud-init
• Experience with container orchestration tools like Kubernetes, helm charts
• Configuring and maintaining monitoring with Icinga2
• Programming with a language such as Perl, Python
• Experience administering CI/CD tools such as GitLab, Artifactory
• Experience deploying and using centralized logging tools and enterprise backup solutions
• Basic database administration with PostgreSQL or MySQL
• Experience with AWS virtualization, networking, storage, and user access
• Server purchasing, racking, and networking in a datacenter environment
Other:
Clearance: Active secret clearance is preferred; however, the group will consider candidates with the
ability to obtain an interim secret clearance for start of the assignment.
Interview process: Initial short phone interview (zoom) with hiring manager. If candidate advances to
next round, larger group interview with technical team.
Work Location - Hybrid: Candidates should expect to be onsite 3 days a week (on average).
