 Motivation
Now, let us have a short activity before we begin
with our new lesson. This game is called “FACT
OR BLUFF”

All you need to do is to answer each statement,


whether it is a fact or bluff.

B. Activity and Discussion (20 Minutes)

 WHAT IS CLAIM?

-A claim is a statement that a writer explores,


explains, or proves in an argument. A claim
should place an argument in the context of a
larger debate that probably involves addressing
potential objections or counterarguments. (Take down notes)

 TYPES OF CLAIM

1. CLAIM OF FACT- asserts a that a condition


has existed, exist, or will exist. It presents
the argument that the claim is true or specific
as a specific term

Examples:

 Studying for a test is one of the ways to get a (Participate with the discussion through asking and answering

 Reading newspaper gives a debater an


advantage in supporting a claim on current
events.

Factory emissions significantly contribute to air pollution,


leading to increased levels of harmful pollutants such as

2. CLAIM OF VALUE- A type of claim that


assesses, appraises, or judges a concept.
You have made a claim of value if you
develop a position in which you say
something is good, bad, or that one thing is
superior to one another.

Examples:

 Studying abroad is better than


studying at a local university.
 That debater is by far the best
speaker in the competition.

The pervasive poverty experienced by children is morally


unacceptable, robbing them of their fundamental right to a
healthy and nurturing upbringing and condemning them to a
cycle of disadvantage.

3. CLAIM OF POLICY- A claim that suggests


a course of action that ought to be followed
in order to address a specific issue. It
suggests a precise course of action that
should be taken.

Examples:

 The government should create an


effective plan to address the traffic.

Governments should significantly strengthen environmental


regulations on factories, including stricter emission standards,
increased penalties for violations, and mandatory

Claims of fact state something is true or false, needing proof


like data or evidence. Claims of value express opinions about
something being good or bad, requiring justification. Claims of
policy propose actions or solutions, advocating for a specific
course of action.

C. Analysis (5 Minutes)
