Duas for Gratitude and Barakah:

As I’m writing this, I’m reading a book on Barakah- The
Barakah Effect by Mohammad Faris. In chapter one he
includes a short story:
Once, a righteous poor man had a dream in which two men
asked if he wanted the hidden treasure of 1,000 dinars beneath
a tree. He inquired, “Is there Barakah in them?” When they said
no, he declined the offer, saying he didn’t need them. The next
evening, the two men reappeared in his dream, now offering
the remaining 500 dinars under the tree. Again, he asked about
Barakah, and when they told him there was none, he turned
down their offer. This pattern continued for several nights, with
the treasure’s amount decreasing each time. Finally, the two
men asked if he wanted the last two dinars left under the tree.
As before, he questioned: “Is there Barakah in them?” This
time, they said yes. Eagerly, he asked for the treasure’s
location. The next morning, he went to the spot shown in his
dream and discovered the two dinars. With the two blessed
dinars in hand, he went to the market and bought a fish to take
home. Upon cutting it open, he found a precious jewel inside
the fish’s belly, worth thousands of dinars.
Barakah is often translated as blessing, yet the term fails to
encapsulate the entirety of its profound meaning. Barakah is an
enigmatic concept - it’s like trying to describe the taste of
honey to someone who has never tried it. To attempt and
define Barakah, we must construct a web of meaning that
illustrates its essence. Over the years, I’ve collected various
definitions of Barakah from scholars, experts, books and
interviews, each of which offered unique insights which helped
me construct a comprehensive definition.
From this story we learn valuable lessons such as: value
over quantity- the man showed wisdom by prioritising
Barakah over sheer wealth.
Trust in Allahs plan- the man trusted that though the
treasure was small the blessings it carried were better.
Sometimes, smaller opportunities or blessings can lead to
something far greater.
Contentment with what you have- the man chose not to
pursue worldly wealth when it lacked Barakah. True happiness
doesn’t stem from wealth but with what we have and from
seeking Allahs blessings.
Blessings often come in unexpected forms- the 2 dinars
led to a precious jewel, teaching us that blessings often come in
ways we may not expect and Allah’s blessings even if they
seems small, come through unexpected means.

Du’a for Gratitude:

‫اللهم لك الحمد على ما أنعمت به علّي‬

Transliteration: Allahumma laka al-hamdu ‘ala ma an’amta bihi
‘alayya
Translation: O Allah, all praise is due to You for the blessings You
have bestowed upon me.

Du’a for Blessings in All Aspects of Life:

‫اللهم اجعلنا من أهل شكرك وذكرك‬
Transliteration: Allahumma ajilna min ahl shukrika wa dhikrika
Translation: O Allah, make us among those who are grateful to
You and remember You.

Du’a for Success:

‫اللهم إني أسالك التوفيق والسداد‬
Transliteration: Allahumma inni as’alu-ka at-tawfeeq wa as-
sadad
Translation: O Allah, I ask You for success and guidance.

Du’a for Barakah (Blessings):

‫اللهم بارك لي في رزقي‬

Saying Alhamdulillah is one of the simplest yet
powerful ways of showing your gratitude to Allah.

Ramadan 1446
As were approaching Ramadan, this month is so important for
us to draw closer to Allah. One of the most important, and
greatest form of ibadah, during this Holy month is dua. The
prophet Muhammad ‫ﷺ‬ said:
"Three supplications are never rejected: the supplication of a
fasting person, the supplication of the just ruler, and the
supplication of the oppressed." (Tirmidhi)

Dua for Beginning the Fast (Suhoor):

‫َأ‬
‫الَّلُهَّم َل َك ُص ْم ُت َوِب َك آَم ْنُت َو َعَلْي َك َت َو َّكْلُت َو َعَلى ِر ْز ِق َك ْف َط ْر ُت‬
O Allah! I have fasted for You, I believe in You, I put my trust in
You, and with Your sustenance, I break my fast.

Dua for Breaking the Fast (Iftar):

‫ُأ‬
‫ُه‬ ‫اَء الَّل‬ ‫ُر ِإْن َش‬ ‫ُر وُق َو َثَبَت اَأْلْج‬ ‫َو اْبَتَّلِت اْلُع‬ ‫َذَه َب الَّظَم‬
Dhahaba adh-dhama’u wabtallatil-‘urooqu wa thabatal-ajru in
sha Allah.
The thirst has gone, the veins are moistened, and the reward is
confirmed, if Allah wills. (Abu Dawood)

Dua for Seeking Forgiveness:

‫اْعُف َعِّني‬ ‫َو َف‬ ‫ٌّو ُتِح ُّب الَع ْف‬ ‫َك َعُف‬ ‫الَّلُهَّم ِإَّن‬
Allahumma innaka ‘Afuwwun tuhibbul ‘afwa fa’fu ‘anni.
O Allah, You are Most Forgiving, and You love to forgive, so
forgive me."(Tirmidhi)
(This is the special dua for Laylatul Qadr.)

Dua for the Last 10 Nights (Laylatul Qadr):

‫اللهم إن……………… و ك………………
Allahumma innaka ‘Afuwwun Karimun tuhibbul ‘afwa
fa’fu ‘anni.
O Allah, You are Most Forgiving, Most Generous, and You love to
forgive, so forgive me.

Dua for Acceptance of Fasts and Worship:

‫ا‬ ‫اِلَح َأْعَم اِلَن‬ ‫ا َوَص‬ ‫َياَم َنا َو ِق َياَم َن‬ ‫ا ِص‬ ‫ْل ِمَّن‬ ‫الَّلُهَّم َتَق َّب‬
Allahumma taqabbal minna siyamana wa qiyamana wa saliha
a’malina.
O Allah, accept from us our fasting, our prayers, and our
righteous deeds.

Dua for Strength in Worship

Allahumma a’inni ‘ala dhikrika wa shukrika wa husni ‘ibadatika.
O Allah, help me to remember You, to be grateful to You, and to
worship You in excellence. (Abu Dawood)
Think about and make a list of Duas you want to ask Allah.
Remember consistency is key and don’t expect the dua to be
answered straight away as Allahs knowledge is far greater than
ours and have Tawakkul that whatever happens is for the best!
Tip: make dua for your health, for your rizq, for happiness and
contenemnt, for jannah, to be free of the punishment of the
Grave, to coross the bridge (As-Sirat) like a flash of lighting, for
patience & strength, for guidance, for success in life and the
hereafter, for barakah, for ease and relief in difficult times.

May Allah accept our fasts, prayers, and duas, and may He
grant us the best of this life and the next. Ameen.
