4 Protection and Conservation of Environment and Biodiversity
27.4.1 discuss strategies for the management of:
a. natural resources:
b. pollution free environment:
c. recycling of waste:
Water disposal is one of the biggest problem of cities because of daily solid waste material.
Waste solid material can be recycle and reduce pollution.
    1. 3Rs Reduce Reuse Recycle
    2. Composting Organic Waste (process that converts organic materials into a nutrient-rich,
biologically-stable soil amendment or mulch through natural decomposition)
    3. Educate and Engage the Community (Raising awareness about waste management is crucial for
long-term success. Organize community events, workshops, and awareness campaigns)
    4. avoid generating unnecessary waste in the first place: Using minimum packaging: Packaging
materials like plastic bags, boxes, packing peanuts, and plastic wrappers often wind up in
landfills. Bring your own shopping bags instead of using plastic bags.
d. biodiversity:
The destruction and disturbance of habitat is accompanied by extinction of major proportion of
       all plants, animals and microorganism.
     strategies
    1. The selection of proper sites for building of reservoirs and dams to store immense quantities of
water and its filtration: Most reservoirs are formed by constructing dams across rivers. A
reservoir can also be formed from a natural lake whose outlet has been dammed to control the
water level. The dam controls the amount of water that flows out of the reservoir.
2. Sewage treatment plants: Sewage treatment is a type of wastewater treatment which aims to
remove contaminants from sewage to produce an effluent that is suitable to discharge to the
surrounding environment or an intended reuse application.
3. The selection of proper site for dumping of urban and industrial wastes eg Solvay’s process in
which water is recovered and reused in process.
4. Prevention of contaminate underground water.
Keep the area around your well clean and free of debris. Do not pour harmful chemicals on the
ground and don't overuse fertilizers and pesticides.
