The lightning

Thief
(Prologue)
I only wanted to visit the New York Aquarium, I never meant to fall in love.
One aquarium visit became a tour of New York, visiting Brooklyn, the Statue
of Liberty, and eventually I found my self in queens. “I might as well have a
couple drinks before I leave,” I thought, unsuspecting of what was to happen
soon. I walked into the quiet bar and that’s I first saw her face which seemed
to shine brighter than the lights of Apollo. I wouldn’t have broken eye contact
with her, if didn’t foolishly walk straight into a wall. I blacked out and woke
up with the beautiful women fanning me with a dining napkin and checking
my pulse. “Thank goodness you’re awake,” she said full of relief.

“No, thank you,” I said partially embarrassed and grateful, “could I buy you a
drink perhaps to thank you for saving my life.”

“Real smooth, but I think I should take you home.”

“Before you do my dear, may have the honor of learning your name?”

“It’s Sally, Sally Jackson. What about you stranger?”

“Poseidon, just Poseidon.”

“Named after a Greek god? Interesting!”

“Actually I wasn’t named after Posei-, never mind it’s a long story. We should
get going shouldn’t we?”

On the way to my hotel that was only 5 minutes away, I got to learn a lot
about Sally, the most important detail to me being that her parents passed
away in a plane crash when she was only a kid. When I learned of her tragic
childhood, I made a decision to disregard the oath I made with my brothers.
And then from there my 1 week stay in New York became one year and my
infatuation with sally became genuine love for her. I told her of my past as
well, but she never distanced herself from me. In fact, we actually grew
closer. She knew I couldn’t be with her but would never let me leave. We
could only be separated by death, and if we were I would take my venture
into the depths of the underworld, trident in hand, to rescue her. I would do
anything for her.

August 18, 1993. I remember that date better than anything else. When my
son was born, I was present for as I could be. Sally, knowing who I really was
at the time, requested a water birth. And that’s how Percy came to be.
Unfortunately my time spent with my son was short lived as a large storm
began to form about an hour after Percy was delivered.

“Poseidon,” Zeus exclaimed, “ is this what you were doing on earth for all
this time!?”

“Mind your business brother, this doesn’t concern you,” I replied sternly.

“I would believe that it does, given the oath you made with me and hades.”

“I abandoned that silly oath a while ago, ever since I’ve learned of the fate of
her parents. All they wanted to do was to get Arkansas, but your blind rage
murdered her parents when she was only a child. Not to even speak of the
torture they must’ve faced in the underworld so far. I couldn’t forgive for this
brother!”

“Brother, leave this realm or there will be war, and I’ll make sure that woman
and child won’t live another day on this earth.”

“You are a heartless scum Zeus! I will go but don’t even think of harming the
child or sally.”

“Goodbye brother.”

As he left I was forced to abandon my child and true love and return back to
the ocean. But before I left I gave sally as much information as I could on
how to protect Percy, and where to send him if things ever went wrong.
Some days I wonder how life would be if I could’ve stayed, but I know I will
return one day. For your sake Percy.
