A DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE

(GRADE 5)
I. Learning Objectives
After the discussion, the students will be able to:
a) Describe the classification of weather disturbances;
b) Identify the different weather disturbances and their effects
on the environment;
c) Give the typhoon warning signals.
II. Subject Matter:
A. Topic: Weather Disturbances

B. Materials: Laptop, PowerPoint Presentation, Pictures, Videos.
C. Values Focus
Show concern to everyone especially in times when weather
disturbances occur.
III. Procedure:

Teacher’s Activity Pupil’s Activity

A. Preliminary Activities

Everybody please stand up and (pupils stand up)

let’s
have a prayer
Yes Ma’am
Arianne can you lead the prayer?
Classmates, please bow your head

the picture. Each group will share
their findings in the class

Activity
Pre-Activity
Class we have here a pictures, so
what you are going to do is to look
and observe the picture.

the first picture the structures are

pictures presented? second photo, it is messy and there
are broken structures, many roofs,
wood scattered in the area

Analysis
Very good everyone, all of your
answer are correct. The pictures that
you have seen are the possible
effects of weather disturbances.

Let’s talk about the weather first.

Weather is the condition of the

atmosphere at a short period of time.

- The different factors that affect

weather include air temperature, air
pressure, humidity, clouds,
precipitation, and wind speed and
direction.
- When these factors change and
affect the condition of the
atmosphere, weather disturbances
occur.

Weather Disturbances
- A temperature difference between
the air and the surface creates a
swirling mass of winds known as a
weather disturbance.
- It is a term used to describe a
change in atmospheric conditions or
weather patterns.

The types of Weather Disturbances

are the following:

Storms
- A storm is a violent disturbance in
the atmosphere marked by sudden
changes in air pressure and rapid air
movements.
-Some storms may cover a huge area,
whereas others cover only a small
area.

Thunderstorms
- Is a localized storm cloud that
produces thunder and lightning.
- It brings heavy rain showers, as well
as gusty wind over
- A large area when the warm, moist
air suddenly rises. Warm air then
condenses causing the formation of
huge cumulonimbus clouds.

Tornadoes
- A tornado is a whirling, funnel-
shaped windstorm. which often
develops from a thunderstorm.
- When this low - pressure area
touches the ground, it acts like a
giant vacuum cleaner.
- Winds begin to rotate rapidly around
the low - pressure area forming a
tornado.

Hurricanes
- A tropical storm with sustained
winds of at least 120 km/hr. is
hurricane.
- Hurricanes, considered the most
violent storms on Earth
Hurricane - Atlantic Ocean
Typhoons - Western Pacific Ocean
Cyclones - Indian Ocean

Tropical Cyclone
- When the cyclone is formed over
the tropics, it is called tropical
cyclone.
- It occurs within the Philippine Area
of Responsibility (PAR) develop in this
two areas which are Pacific Ocean
and West Philippine Sea.

Tropical Cyclones can be further

classified into five types:
Tropical Depression (TD)
Tropical Storm (TS)
Severe Tropical Storm (STS)
Typhoon (TY)
Super Typhoon (STY)

The PAGASA or Philippine

Atmospheric Geophysical and
Astronomical Services
Administration closely observe any
change in the atmosphere. The
agency gives people regular updates
on the weather condition.

Here are some effects of Weather

Disturbances:
1. Destructive forces of typhoons can
have extensive impact on both
human and animal life.
2. There are likely to be shortage in
food and water supplies.
3. Flooding can cause houses to

properties to be swept away and
farms to lose all of their crops to the

food and water supplies.
Again, what is Weather Disturbances? - It can cause houses to completely
destroyed so the communities are
displayed from their homes.

Good, what are the different types of

the Weather disturbances?

Give at least one of the effects of

weather disturbance.
Yes teacher

Application
Listen to my instructions carefully. In
this group activity the class will be
divided into two groups and each
group have a one representative to
pick up some important items before
the Typhoon occur, and put it in the
bag called “GO BAG”

Do you understand class?

Are you done class?

Okay, please assign one

representative each group to present
your work.
