Status of Travel
Despite recent economic and geopolitical turmoil, the tourism industry
remains resilient. New data released by the United Nations World Tourism
Organization (UNWTO) shows that in 2023 there will be 1.3 billion
international tourist arrivals, equivalent to 88% compared to 2019 - the time
before the Covid-19 pandemic broke out.
Every region in the world has seen a faster-than-expected recovery in the
smokeless industry. In 2023, the Middle East was the only region to record
tourism activity exceeding pre-pandemic levels, up 22% compared to 2019.
The European tourism industry also had a bumper year, recovering 94%
compared to pre-pandemic levels, thanks to high demand in the region and a
large number of visitors from the United States. This rate in Africa and the
Americas also reached more than 90%, while in Asia - Pacific it was 65%.
Experts say there is every reason to expect the tourism industry to take off
in 2024, because the room for tourism development in the region of the world
is still very open.
