Directions

Cast on 184 (220) 252 sts and knit 4 rounds in stockinette stitch.

Place a marker to indicate beginning of the round. Count 87 (105) 121 sts and place a
marker, count 5 sts and place a marker, count 87 (105) 121 sts and place a marker.

General explanation:

The 5 sts on each side are the steek sts. When the steek is knitted with 2 strands they are
always knit: contrast, base color, contrast, base color, contrast. For rows with 1 strand, they
are simply knit with that only. This is not further directed in the pattern.

The 87 (105) 121 sts between the steeks are the front and back, where the diagrams are
knitted. This is also not explained further.

Continue knitting as follows:

Knit diagram A below, begin the diagram according to size.

Size 1: First st is number 14 (horizontal numbers)

Size 2: First st is number 5 (horizontal numbers)
Size 3: First st is number 13 (horizontal numbers)

Knit 7 (9) 11 rounds in base color.

Knit diagram B below, according to size:

Knit 2 (4) 6 rounds in base color.

Knit 1 round binding off steek as follows: Knit 87 (105) 121sts. Bind of 5 sts. Knit 87 (105)

Knit 1 round and cast on 5 sts in each side as follows: Knit 87 (105) 121sts, cast on 5 sts,

Knit 3 (3) 3 rounds in base color.

Knit 5 rows of diagram A on the previous page, in the round, the added 5 sts on each side
are knitted in the basecolor (it is not steek – see photo on the last page).

Armhole decrease and armhole steek as follows:

On the 6th diagram round – bind off the 5 sts in each side.

On the 7th diagram round – cast on 5 sts in each side (steek for arm opening).

On the 8th diagram round – decrease as follows for BOTH front and back: knit2tog left, knit
until 2 sts before steek, knit2tog right, knit 5 sts, knit2tog left, knit until 2 sts steek, knit2tog
right.

Knit the 10th – 19th diagram round the same way, following the diagram but with decreases.

Knit 2 (8) 11 rounds in base color with decreases as above.

The following round is knit in basecolor: Knit 20 (23) 26 sts, and put 17 stitches on a wire or
otherwise on hold. Cast on 5 sts (neckline steek) and knit until end of round.

Knit the diagrams below: one diagram for the front, and one for the back. Knit according to
size: Size 1: red. Size 2: green. Size 3: dashed. Row 18-21 is knitted back and forth.

Front:
Knit diagram below to shape the neckline. The lines below the diagram show how much of
the diagram is to be knitted. (the neckline steek is included in this diagram – the blank part
on both sides is to be ignored, they represent 0 sts)

Back: Knit the diagram below on the back, begin the diagram according to size.

Bind off st

Sew together and cut steek

The shoulders are knitted together using the three needle bind off method, or another
preferred method.

The steek is crocheted or sewn and then cut. The steek is sewn in using a simple overstitch
technique, for both armholes, neckline, and slits.

Neck and armholes ribbing

Put the neck sts that are on hold, on 3 mm needles. Pick up 83 along the neck and knit 8 cm
one by one ribbing (k1, p1), bind off with italian bind off.

Pick up 84 (86) 88 sts with a 3 mm needle along the armhole and knit 3 cm one by one
ribbing (k1, p1), bind off with italian bind off. Same procedure for the second.

Double knitted slits and hem ribbing:

Back right slit:

Pick up the back right slit edge first (right - as if you are wearing it). Pick up 38 (42) 46
stitches vertically, from the bottom up – be careful to pick up stitches in BETWEEN the steek
and the diagram pattern, so the steek is hidden.

Pick up 11 more stitches - horizontally as follows: *yarn over, pick up 1* continue from * to *
until there is 11. (So 6 sts are cast on, and 5 are picked up)

Now the edge is double knitted as follows:

The first row is knitted from the backside: (Note: Slip stitches must be slipped with yarn held
in front of the stitch)
*knit2tog right, slip1, k1, slip1, k1, slip1, k1, slip1, k1, slip1, k1
Turn your work.
slip1, k1, slip1, k1, slip1, k1, slip1, k1, slip1, k1, slip1*

Continue from *to* until there is only 11 sts left total and leave them on a wire.

Back left slit:

Pick up 38 (42) 46 stitches vertically, from the bottom up on the left side. Pick up 11 more
stitches - horizontally as follows: *yarn over, pick up 1* continue from * to * until there is 11.
(so 6 sts are cast on, and 5 are picked up). NOTE: this can be done opposite for an easier
process: pull an arm length of yarn and pick up the horizontal 11 sts first - begin with the end
of the yarn closest to the yarn ball, and continue picking up the downwards 38 (42) 46 sts.

Now the edge is double knitted as follows:

The first row is knitted from the frontside:

*k1, slip1, k1, slip1, k1, slip1, k1, slip1, k1, slip1, k2tog left.
Turn your work.
slip1, k1, slip1, k1, slip1, k1, slip1, k1, slip1, k1, slip1*

Continue from *to* until there is only 11 sts left total.

Pick up 89 (105) 121 sts. Add the other 11 sts on your needles as well.

Knit 8 cm one by one ribbing (k1, p1) – Always slip the first stitch for every row.

Bind off with italian bind off.

Front slit edges:

The front hem double knitted edges should lie behind the back edges (see photo).

5
the spring vest by Loop Tales / Sidsel Mohr

The edges are knitted in the same procedure BUT the 11 vertical sts are picked up under the
other double knitted edge – tricky but it will not be visible – just make sure there are 11. See
photo. Note: the process is mirrored, so for the front left edge, look for the directions for the
back right and vice versa.

The sts for the front slit edges are picked up
