TABLE :
A table is a grid of cells arranged in rows and columns. Tables can be used to
organize any type of content, whether you're working with text or numerical data. In
Word, you can quickly insert a blank table or convert existing text to a table. You
can also customize your table using different styles and layouts.
✓ To insert a blank table:
1. Place the insertion point where you want the table to appear.
2. Navigate to the Insert tab, then click the Table command
3. This will open a drop-down menu that contains a grid. Hover over the
grid to select the number of columns and rows you want.
4. Click the grid to confirm your selection, and a table will appear.
5. To enter text, place the insertion point in any cell, then begin typing.
✓ To convert existing text to a table:
In the example below, each line of text contains part of a checklist, including chores
and days of the week. The items are separated by tabs. Word can convert this
information into a table, using the tabs to separate the data into columns.
1. Select the text you want to convert to a table. If you're using our practice
file, you can find this text on page 2 of the document.
2. Go to the Insert tab, then click the Table command.
3. Select Convert Text to Table from the drop-down menu.
4. A dialog box will appear. Choose one of the options under Separate text
at. This is how Word knows what to put into each column.
5. Click OK. The text will appear in a table.
✓ To add a row or column:
1. Hover outside the table where you want to add a row or column. Click
the plus sign that appears.
2. A new row or column will be added to the table.
You can also right-click the table, then hover over Insert to see various row and
column options.
✓ To delete a row or column:
1. Place the insertion point in the row or column you want to delete.
2. Right-click, then select Delete Cells from the menu.
3. A dialog box will appear. Choose Delete entire row or Delete entire
column, then click OK.
4. The row or column will be deleted.
✓ To modify table style options:
Once you've chosen a table style, you can turn various options on or off to change
its appearance. There are six options: Header Row, Total Row, Banded
Rows, First Column, Last Column, and Banded Columns.
1. Click anywhere in your table, then navigate to the Design tab.
2. Locate the Table Style Options group, then check or uncheck the
desired options.
3. The table style will be modified.
Depending on the Table Style you've chosen, certain Table Style Options may
have a different effect. You might need to experiment to get the look you want.
✓ To apply borders to a table:
1. Select the cells you want to apply a border to.
2. Use the commands on the Design tab to choose the desired Line
Style, Line Weight, and Pen Color.
3. Click the drop-down arrow below the Borders command.
4. Choose a border type from the menu.
5. The border will be applied to the selected cells.
Modifying a table using the Layout tab
In Word, the Layout tab appears whenever you select your table. You can use the
options on this tab to make a variety of modifications.

✓ Delete a table
Use Table Tools to quickly delete a table in Word for the web.
1. If you’re not already in Editing View, click Edit Document > Edit in Word for
the web.
2. Click anywhere in the table to open Table Tools.
3. Click Layout > Delete Table.

✓ Insert pictures
1. Click in your document where you want to insert your picture.
2. Click the Insert tab.
3. Click Pictures button.
4. Navigate to the picture you want to insert and select it.To insert more than one
file at a time, press and hold down Ctrl as you select them.
5. Click Insert button.
✓ Insert an Online Picture
You can also use the internet to search for a picture if you don't have one handy in
your files.
1. Click where you want to insert your online picture.
2. Click the Online PIctures button on the Insert tab.
3. Enter keyword text into the search field and press Enter.
You can click the Filter button below the search field to refine your search.
• Size: Choose how big you want the image to be, from a small thumbnail
to an extra-large image.
• Type: You can search for a photograph, clipart, line drawings,
animations, or images with transparent backgrounds.
• Color: Select a color to show images that primarily feature that color.
• Layout: Search for square, wide, or tall images.
4. Select the picture you wish to use.
5. Click the Insert button.
✓ Crop a Picture
When you crop a picture, you trim its horizontal and vertical sides. Cropping is
useful when you only want to include a portion of a picture, or when you need to
adjust its proportions.
1. Select the picture.
2. Click the Format tab in the Picture Tools ribbon group.
3. Click the Crop button.
Crop handles appear on the sides and corners of the image.
4. Click and drag the crop handles where you want to crop.
To crop all four sides of a picture or graphic at once while maintaining the
graphic’s proportions, press and hold down Ctrl as you drag the handles.
5. Click the Crop button again when you’re finished setting the crop area.
✓ Use Picture Styles
Picture styles let you add borders and effects, such as shadows, reflections, and 3D
rotation, to images. You can select a Quick Style or customize your own style.
1. Click the Quick Styles button on the Format tab.
The Quick Styles gallery expands. Each thumbnail gives a rough preview of
how the style will affect the image.
2. Select a style.
✓ Resize an Image by Clicking and Dragging
Resize an image to shrink it down to fit in a tight spot in a document or to make it
larger to fill up more space. Any type of object can be resized, including images,
shapes, SmartArt, WordArt, charts, and text boxes.
1. In the Word document, select the object you want to resize.
2. Use the mouse or touchpad to select and drag a Sizing handle. The Sizing handles
are located on each corner of the object, as well as on the top, bottom, left, and
right borders.
3. To keep the proportions of the object the same, press and hold the Shift key while
you select and drag. To keep the object centered in its current location, press and
hold the Ctrl key while you select and drag. Press and hold both keys together to
perform both functions.
✓ Resize an Image by Setting an Exact Height and Width
Resize an object based on an exact size if you need to make two or more images the
same size or if images must be a certain size to fit a template or other requirement.
1. In the Word document, select the object you want to resize. Then, on the ribbon,
select Picture Format.
2. To resize the object to an exact size, go to the Size group and enter the values you
want in the Height and Width boxes. Or, use the arrows to change the height and
width of the object.
3. To resize the object to an exact proporation, select the dialog box launcher.
4. In the Layout dialog box, select the Size tab.
5. In the Scale section, select Lock Aspect Ratio. In the Height or Width section,
use the controls to change the height or width. The other dimension automatically
changes to maintain the ratio.
6. Select OK.
