Coefficient ‘power’ are same .

Focus:

1. 1 ≤ A < 10 ; Simplify A to two decimal places.

2. The exponent is static

3. The base represents the number and direction of moves


1.4 Standard Form

E.g: Express the following numbers in standard form


a)456000000

To the right (+)

= 456000000 The number of moves represents the value of base

= 4.56 × 108 The direction of moves represents the sign (-/+) of the base
1.4 Standard Form

E.g: Express the following numbers in standard form


b)0.0000002567

To the left (-)

= 0.00000002567 The number of moves represents the value of base

= 2.567 × 10−8 The direction of moves represents the sign (-/+) of the base

= 2.57 × 10−8 Simplify to 2 decimal places
