This skill allows players to move around the court, maneuver past

defenders and execute plays. It involves bouncing the ball off the
floor with their hands.
Here are tips for basic dribbling in basketball:
S I
• Dribble using your fingertips, not the palm
• Dribble both sides of the body, don’t repeatedly bounce in front
• Dribble whilst looking up or in front, not looking down
L
• Get used to bouncing the ball off the ground.
• Lower your body slightly to the make ball bounce rapidly at
I
waist level
L
• Bounce the ball quickly and hard when switching between
hands
• Shift the momentum of the body towards the direction you are
going

B SHOOTING
S
The skill of throwing the ball through the basket to score a point. Proper holding
and throwing of the ball is important while avoiding the opponents defenders.
A K
The general procedure that all good basketball shooters follow:
1.Knees half bent before shooting for more power
2.Fingers of the dominant hand are spread out
3.Fingertips are the only ones gripping the ball
I
4.The less dominant hand supports the ball on the side
S
5.The ball should be brought above the head in one motion
6.The angles of your armpit, elbow, and wrist are at 90°
7.While extending the knees, extend the forearm and wrist
L
8.Follow through with your wrist movement. Jump upon release
I
Tips on shooting the ball
• Keep track of your distance to the hoop
L • Tuck elbows inward towards each other when shooting
• Shoot the basketball at an arc. It increases accuracy.
• Aim at the part inside the rim farthest from your standpoint
C S
• Use screens and offensive plays to get open
• Square up your shooting hand with the basketball hoop
• Grip the basketball tightly using only the thumb and pinky
• Aim with the index / middle finger only
• Do not hesitate with a shot

BPASSING
S
Chest Pass.
- Originates from the chest.
A K
- It is thrown by gripping the ball on the sides with the thumbs
directly behind the ball. When the pass is thrown, the fingers are
rotated behind the ball and the thumbs are turned down.
S I
Bounce Pass.
- Is thrown with the same motion however it is aimed at the floor. It
L
should be thrown far enough out that the ball bounces waist high
to the receiver.
I
Overhead Pass.
L
- Often used as an outlet pass.
- Bring the ball directly above your forehead with both hands on the
side of the ball and follow through. Do not bring the ball behind
C S
your head, because it can get stolen, and it takes a split-second
longer throw the pass.

REBOUNDING
A K
- This aims to successfully gain possession of the basketball after
a missed field goal or free throw, as it rebounds from the hoop or
backboard.
S I
How to rebound:
1. Find a good position on the court.
2. Get low to the ground.
L
3. Spread your arms.
4. Box out your opponent, if necessary.
I
5. Jump towards the ball.
L
6. Grasp the ball with both hands, if possible.
7. Have a plan to pass the ball.
8. Learn to anticipate missed shots.

RUNNING
A K
- You will run back and forth as the game quickly transitions

- When you have the ball, running will help you to avoid

defenders and get to the basket quicker. On defense, you often
need to run after the opponent, especially during fast breaks.
L
Tips to improve running:
1. Lean forward.
I
2. Run on the balls of your feet.
L
3. Swing your arms and hands from cheek to cheek (that is butt
cheek to face cheek) alongside your body don't allow your arms
to cross-over in front of your body.

EQUIPMENT AND FACILITIES
UNIFORM - When starting training with a basketball team, the most important need for a team is to have a uniform. This
helps distinguish one team from another. The uniform consists of a jersey (shirt), shorts, numbers on the front and back of
the garments for identification.
BASKETBALL SNEAKERS - Basketball shoes are also essential when playing basketball because they help prevent injuries
by providing adequate ankle support. High-top shoes offer the best ankle support; they should also be laced up properly
to help provide a snug fit.
WATER BOTTLE - The water bottle is a container that helps to store water, liquids, or other beverages. The water bottle is
commonly made of plastic, glass, or metal, and it helps an individual to drink and transport drinks from one place to
another.
SCOREBOARD - The scoreboard is a large board used to display the points in a game.
WHISTLE - It is used by referees to give signals in the game.
TIMER - The timer is used to regulate and track the duration and playing time of the game.
EQUIPMENT AND
FACILITIES
• BALL - The ball of basketball
is typically made of leather and
has an official size ranging from
29.5 to 30 inches in
circumference for men's games
and 28.5 inches for women's
games. It should weigh between
18 to 22 ounces. When dropped
from a height of 6 feet, a
properly inflated ball should
bounce 49 to 54 inches high.
EQUIPMENT AND FACILITIES
COURT DIMENSIONS - The measurement of a court is 28 meters in length and 15 meters in width from the inner
edge of the boundary line. The court is a flat, hard surface with no obstructions.
EQUIPMENT AND
FACILITIES
•
BACKBOARD AND RIM-
The height of the rim from
the ground is 10 feet, the
rim has a diameter of 18
inches, and the dimensions
of the backboard are 72
inches wide and 42 inches
high, with an inner square
measuring 24 inches wide
and 18 inches high.
EQUIPMENT AND FACILITIES
BACKCOURT - In the backcourt of the basketball court, you'll find the
team's basket, the inbounds portion of the backboard, and the area of the
playing court bounded by their own end line, side lines, and center line.
FRONTCOURT - The front court is the part of the playing court that
includes the opponent's basket, the inbounds area of the backboard, and
the part of the playing court limited by the end lines behind the
opponent's basket, side lines, and the inner edge of the center line closest
to the opponent's basket.
LINES- The lines are clearly visible and all colored white with a width of
5cm.
BASIC RULES AND
REGULATION OF
BASKETBALL
The offensive basketball team is the one that has the ball. When a player has the basketball, he
O
or she must observe the following rules:
1. The ball must be bounced, or dribbled, with one hand while both feet are moving. If both
F R
hands touch the ball at the same moment or the player stops dribbling, the player can only
move one foot. The motionless foot is referred to as the pivot foot.
F U
2. The basketball player is only allowed to dribble once. In other words, once a player has
stopped dribbling, he or she cannot begin dribbling again. A player who resumes dribbling is
charged with a double-dribbling infraction and loses possession of the ball to the other side.
E L
After another player from either team touches or obtains control of the basketball, a player can
begin another dribble. This usually occurs following a shot or a pass.
N E
3. The ball must remain within the boundaries of the field. If the offensive team loses the ball
out of bounds, the ball is turned over to the opposing team.
S S
4. While dribbling, the player's hand must be on top of the ball. Carrying the ball occurs when a
player touches the bottom of the basketball while dribbling and continues to dribble, and the
player loses the ball to the opposing team.
E 5. The offensive team is not allowed to return to the backcourt once they have crossed half
court. A backcourt violation is what this is known as. The offensive team can lawfully reclaim the
ball if the defensive team knocks it into the backcourt.

Basketball players are unable to kick or hit the ball with their fist. 3. No player is allowed to

THINGS TO PREVENT
DEHYDRATION
Drink water 4 hours before playing and half a cup every 10 to 15 minutes
while playing basketball.
To reduce sweating and lower body temperature, the towel to be used
should be wet or have water mist on the skin.
When working out, it is not recommended to consume alcohol and caffeine
such as coffee, soda, and tea for optimal hydration.
Add electrolytes like sodium and potassium lost through sweating using
sports drinks or enhanced water.
