Direct & Indirect Questions

são usadas quando você quer perguntar algo de forma mais educada ou inserir uma pergunta
dentro de outra frase. Elas não seguem a mesma estrutura de direct questions . Vamos ver
como funcionam:

1. Direct questions

É uma pergunta comum, direta e objetiva:

Where is she?

What time does the meeting start?

2. Indirect question:

É mais polida e geralmente começa com uma introdução como:

Can you tell me...?

Do you know...?

I wonder...

Could you explain...?

A estrutura muda: o verbo não fica invertido e o auxiliar (do/does/did) desaparece.

Exemplos:

Where is she? (direct question)

→ Can you tell me where she is?

What time does the meeting start? (direct question)

→ Do you know what time the meeting starts?

3. Yes/No questions:

Para perguntas que começam com do/does/did ou verbos auxiliares como is/are/will,
adicionamos "if" ou "whether" para transformá-las em indiretas.

Exemplos:

Is he coming? (direct question)

→ Do you know if he is coming?

Did she finish the report? (direct question)

→ Can you tell me if she finished the report?

Regras importantes:

Sem inversão: Na indireta, a ordem fica como uma frase afirmativa, sem inverter o sujeito e o
verbo.

Direct: Where is she?

Indirect: Do you know where she is?

Sem do/does/did em perguntas informativas:

Direct: What does he want?

Indirect: I wonder what he wants.

Uso de "if" ou "whether" para perguntas de sim ou não:

Direct: Does he like coffee?

Indirect: I wonder if he likes coffee.

Se precisar de mais exemplos ou explicações específicas, é só avisar! 😊
