Midterm 2 writing revision

In the MT and Checkpoint exam you will have a writing paper


(paper 2).

In this paper, you will have to write two pieces of writing; one
short and one long.

The short piece will be 35-45 words long

The long piece will be 110-130 words long

The type of writing can be anything that you have learnt in ESL so far.

Task

Select one of the following topics below and write a 110-130 word essay
●​ Write in your book
●​ Put the date and DIRT at the top of the page

You need to do planning before you write your essay

Make sure you have ticked all the points on the relevant checklist for your chosen
topic.
Topics

Write an essay on ONE of the following topics. Your essay should be 110-130 words. Do
not forget to do planning.

1) Your English teacher wants you to write a story.


Your story must begin with this sentence:

The friends hurried to the window when they heard the noise.

Checklist for option 1


Given essay a title

Written in the past tense

Checked that all verbs are in the past tense

Written in 3 or more paragraphs

Written in full sentences

Used at least one of the following;


Onomatopoeia, metaphor, simile

Have a resolved ending (NOT it was just a dream or to be continued).

2) In your English class, you have been talking about sport. Your teacher has asked you to
write this essay:

“Some people say that all teenagers should do sport. Do you agree?”

Written in 4 paragraphs (intro, argument 1, argument 2, conclusion)

Given reasoning for my points

Written in the present tense

Have a counterargument and a rebuttal

Written in full sentences using punctuation
