History of world football

The modern soccer sport can be said to have originated during

the Han Dynasty in China under the name Cuju and has been
recognized by FIFA.

What is football?
Football (other names: soccer, soccer, soccer ; British
English: Football , American English: Soccer ) is a team sport
played with a spherical ball between two teams of 11 players.
defense on each side. Soccer is played on a rectangular field
called a soccer field with a goal at each end with the goal being
to kick the ball into the opponent's net (score). The team that
scores more goals will win.

FIFA

The world football governing body, FIFA (Fédération

Internationale de Football Association, International Football
Association) was founded in 1904 in Paris with the first
president being Mr. Robert Guérin, a Frenchman, since its
inception. FIFA has declared to use and respect the football
rules set by the FA.

Since 1913, the football law monitoring agency IFAB began

to add members as representatives of FIFA. Currently, IFAB's
executive board includes 4 representatives from FIFA and 4
representatives from the federations that created football rules:
England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales.
Players & STADIUM
Each team consists of 11 players. These are made up of one
goalkeeper and ten outfield players. The pitch dimensions vary
from each ground but are roughly 120 yards long and 75 yards
wide

Scoring
To score the ball must go into your opponent’s goal. The whole
ball needs to be over the line for it to be a legitimate goal. A
goal can be scored with any part of the body apart from the
hand or arm up to the shoulder. The goal itself consists of a
frame measuring 8 feet high and 8 yards wide.

Winning the Game

To win you have to score more goals than that of your
opponents. If the scores are level after 90 minutes then the
game will end as a draw apart from in cup games where the
game can go to extra time and even a penalty shootout to
decide the winner. Players must use their feet to kick the ball
and are prohibited to use their hands apart from goalkeepers
who can use any part of their body within the 18 yard box (of
which more can be found out in the next section).

TOURNAMENT
The tournament was first held in 1930 and has now become the
most watched sports tournament around the world, surpassing
even the Olympics. The Summer Olympics program has also
included football competitions since 1900 (except for the 1932
Summer Olympics held in Los Angeles).

In addition to the World Cup, at the international level there are

also tournaments organized by continental federations such as:
– UEFA European Football Championship

– CONMEBOL South American Cup

– CAF Africa Cup of Nations

– AFC Asian Football Cup

– CONCACAF North, Central American and Caribbean Cup

– OFC Oceania Cup

The champions of continental tournaments along with the

defending World Cup champions will meet at the
Confederations Cup, this is the warm-up tournament for the
World Cup and is organized by FIFA one year before the World
Cup.

The football clubs of each continent also have their own

tournaments, the most notable of which are the UEFA
Champions League in Europe and the Copa Libertadores
de América in South America.

The winning clubs of the continental tournament will meet in

the FIFA Club World Cup.

National level
At the national level, the football governing body will organize
club-level federation tournaments into two legs, whereby clubs
in the same division will meet each other twice. The top teams
of each country's top league league will participate in
continental tournaments.
