A crowded place
So, upon hearing this question, a crowded place that pops up in my mind immediately
is the night market called the Lantern Market, which is properly one of the noisiest places I’ve
ever been to.
If I’m not mistaken, it was about a couple of years ago. Back then, I was on a vacation
with my family and on the first night of the trip, I decided to take a trip to a nearby night
market, which is always on top of my bucket list.
And the moment I had set foot there, I was totally transfixed as I realized I had
underestimated its popularity. I mean, the place was teeming with shoppers looking for the
best deals and sellers trying to persuade customers to buy. I mean, it was much more crowded
than I expected, even though it was just a normal weekday, it was not a weekend, and that's
why getting around was a bit of a challenge.
BI had one goal in mind: to try chuối nướng, a grilled banana dessert. It’s a dish I’d
heard so much about, and I was determined to experience it firsthand.
You know what, the main reason why I visited this night market is because I wanted to
try chuối nướng, which is a grill banana desert that people often recommended on social
media. However, when I got to the food stall that sells this famous dish, I was shocked to see a
long queue stretching down the street. It seemed like everyone wanted to try this dish too, and
I ended up waiting for nearly 45 minutes to place my order, which was truly an exhausting
experience.
However, I was shocked by the sheer number of people crowding around the food
stalls. When I reached the vendor selling the famous dish, there was a long queue stretching
down the street. I ended up waiting for nearly 45 minutes to place my order. The atmosphere
was lively, but standing in such a cramped space with so many people was exhausting, to be
honest.
It goes without saying that this experience really etched in my mind and in the future, if
I have a chance, I will still go back to this market again.
Describe a picture or photograph in your family that you like.
You should say:
● What is in the photo?
● Where is this photo in your home?
● How was this picture taken?
And explain why this photo is special to you.
Upon hearing this question, I would like to tell you about a photo of my sister, Linh and
me. I don't regard myself as being very photogenic but this particular photo turns out
really well.
I can't remember the exact date this photo was taken because I have a memory like a
sieve, but it was quite a while ago, maybe a couple of years during a vacation in Ha
Long Bay with my family.
As I remember my father was behind the camera. I wouldn't normally call him a
brilliant photographer. I think he’s just got lucky this time and of course having the right
camera help. So I would describe this photograph as a simple photo of Linh and me
standing in front of the vast bay to take a shot for memory. We both put on white
dresses with a conical hat on our hands. The sky was a bit sunny on that day, but that
just made the picture brighter. So yeah, that's basically what’s in that photo.
However, it still has lots of sentimental value to me. For one thing, it reminds me of the
last trip with my beloved ones before I started my high school and became busy with
my hectic schedules. I mean, it was a rare moment when we all put our minds at ease
and simply enjoyed the quality time being together without any distractions. In addition,
it may sound ridiculous but I do look good in the photo. You know, I still vividly
remember the white dress I wore in the photo and it literally captured anyone's attention
when they first looked at the photo. It is the sparkling and unique design that makes the
dress so amazing.
So yeah, it goes without saying that the photo of my sister and me really etched in my
mind. And I guess whenever I face any difficulty in my life, looking at this photo would
encourage me in some way.
Describe a challenge you faced that you thought was rather difficult
You should say:
● What it was
● When and where you faced it
● Why you thought it was a difficult challenge
And explain how you felt at the time.
Upon hearing this question, I would like to share my experience on a challenging
situation I recently faced.
If I’m not mistaken, it happened about a couple of months ago. Back then, I was chosen
as an organizer of my school’s funfair. Initially, I was so excited about the work but I
soon realized that it was a real challenge to me.
The first hurdle I faced was managing the budget. I mean, we were given only a limited
amount of money but so many expenses, such as decorations or food and it seemed
impossible to cover all those things. I still vividly remember that nerve-racking, I even
shouted “how on earth am I going to solve this problem”. Even worse, some of the
members didn’t join in the preparation process and everytime we held a meeting, there
was always disagreement, and it was literally beating around the bush again and again.
What made the situation more daunting is the stretchy time. We only had a couple of
weeks to make plans for everything and time just flew.
However, after taking back my energy, I’ve pulled up my sleeves and divided the task
into smaller tasks and arranged some co-leaders. I also do some investigations on
finding the cheapest products and ask my brother a bit on some technological areas.
Finally after a lot of effort and dedication, I eventually finish my work in the nick of
time.
In the end of the day, the funfair was a huge success and got positive responses from
teachers and students. In the future, if I have a chance, I think I’ll be more confident in
organizing events like this.
Describe a time when someone asked for your opinion
One time, my close friend Alex asked for my opinion about a painting he was working on.
Alex is a freelance artist and often seeks feedback to refine his creations, especially when
he feels uncertain about the direction of his work. In this particular instance, he was
working on a piece intended for an upcoming art exhibit. He wanted to know if the colors
and composition of the painting conveyed the emotions he had in mind—calmness and
introspection.
When I first looked at the painting, I was struck by its beauty, but I could see where he felt
unsure. The main subject blended into the background slightly, making it harder for viewers
to focus on the central theme. I suggested increasing the contrast around the focal point to
make it stand out more prominently. Additionally, I commended his choice of colors, as
they already captured a serene and reflective mood that matched his vision. I also
recommended adding subtle highlights to certain areas to create more depth and draw the
viewer’s eye naturally across the canvas.
Alex was Attentive as I shared my thoughts and even asked follow-up questions about
specific parts of the painting. He explained that he trusted my perspective because I’ve
always been honest and detail-oriented when it comes to creative works. Seeing how
seriously he took my opinion made me feel honored and valued. It was clear that he wasn’t
just seeking validation but genuinely wanted constructive feedback to improve his work.
When he later showed me the final version of the painting, I was amazed at how he had
incorporated my suggestions while staying true to his artistic style. It was fulfilling to know
that my input had played a small role in enhancing his creation. This experience deepened
my appreciation for the trust and mutual respect in our friendship and reminded me of the
joy that comes from supporting others in their creative journeys.
Describe someone else's room you enjoy spending time
This is a pretty fascinating question for me personally because I really love spending time
by myself in my own room and so I don't really visit other people's places that often
nowadays anymore. But back when I was a student especially when I was in primary school
and secondary school visiting my friend houses was something that my parents really didn't
allow me to do that often because I lived very far away from my school and from all of my
friends and so it was really hard for my parents to control what I was doing if I were to visit
their places
But there was this one time I came over to one of my friends house because I needed to stay
over lunch because we had like an extra class in the afternoon or something like that I can't
remember right now but that was like the one time like one of the few occasions when I was
allowed to visit one of my friends places and needless to say I was ecstatic I was so excited
the room itself was nothing like extraordinary.
It was just like any other students rooms but that friend of mine was a die-hard Pentatonix
fan and you know through visiting her house and her room I got to you know be interested
in Pentatonix as a band as well because she had a lot of merchandise and CDs of this
acapella group and I was really curious as to what was so interesting about this group that
she was so you know you know into and so I asked her a lot of questions and we had to
spend that time together and I eventually became a fan as well
Nowadays whenever I think back at that time I remember you know visiting her house and
becoming a fan of that acapella group all thanks to visiting her house and her room and so
that is like one of the rooms that's that is that's like stand out in my memory whenever I
think of like other people's houses for that specific reason so yeah if you haven't checked
out check them out
DESCRIBE AN INTERESTING DISCUSSION
I'm going to talk about this discussion that I had with my friend that I write songs with.
So this one time we were sitting together to write songs as usual. We decided to always sit
down physically together because we just find that whenever we do that, it always works
the best. We tend to like just, you know, decide on a concept and a general theme and just
let the melodies and the lyrics flow out of us without ever really try.
So on this one particular day, it began pretty okay-ish. But like at one point we were both
feeling somewhat stuck and that never really happens with us ever. And so at first we kind
of ignored what was going on and we just kind of kept pushing for a little while, but then
we kind of hit a wall.
And so we had to like sit down and confronted ourselves to see what was going on. And so
we came to a conclusion that we were both fighting some battles within ourselves. We were
both having some personal struggles that we were both not being completely honest with
ourselves about.
And so we were essentially trying to figure out how should we go about this? Do we let our
personal problems and matters interfere with our mutual project at that moment in time? We
were just like talking about that for half an hour and, you know, we took it as a break from
our songwriting session. And by the end of that, we just decided to, you know, focus on our
personal matters first before letting our creative juice flow out of us again. And ultimately, I
think that was the best decision that we could have reached.
After that half an hour, we felt a lot better. We felt rejuvenated. We felt ready again to be
creative, to be songwriters again. And as expected, we began to feel the passion, the
enthusiasm that we usually have together. And by the end of that session, we were feeling
like ourselves again. And so thanks to that discussion, now we always be upfront and
honest about how we are, well, how we're feeling before a writing session.
