8m Unipole Design Calculation
8m Unipole Design Calculation
1.0 Introduction
This report gives the calculations for the design of a 8m Standard Unipole (roof top).
The unipole is designed to be affixed to reinforced concrete structural elements of existing builing
as provision of shear, tension and torsional restraint to the unipole.
Height of existing structure is idealized at ( base) 60 m AMSL
The unipole is designed to support maximum number of Microwave and Panel Antennas at heigth
    and azimuth as tabulated below:-

    recommendations suggested in CP3 : Chapter V: Part 2: 1972
    (d) Structural design of steelworks shall be based on the British StandardBS 5950: Structural
use of steel work in building
(e) All steel shall be Hot-Dip Galvanized after fabrication as perBS EN ISO 1461
    (f) All connecting bolts used to affix boom to existing structural elements shall strictly adhere to
bolt manufacturer's specifications and/or installation guides. NDT on existing structural elements
shall be carried out accordingly at the discretion of the Design Engineers from time to time should
it be necessary to determine the strength of the base material(s).
    (g) All welding works shall comply to requirements outlined inBS EN 729

4.0 Analysis of Unipole
The figure obtained from the analysis is shown in appendix. The lateral sway and tilt at worst case
considered at the most critical point, which is at the top of the pole area shown as below:-
                                                 o
                               = 0.1300
                               < 0.5 "PASS"
The proposed 8.0m Unipole will be rested on the existing RC roof slab, the live load for normal roof slab
design is 1.5KN/m2 according to BS 6399, Part 1. The weight of the new structure shall be less then
    the allowable design live load.
Total weight of the whole structure including all the ancialliary and antenna,
                                          W=            7.66 KN
Area of the base, Ab = 4x4
                                             = 16 m
               Uniform pressure on slab, w = 0.479 <1.5KN/m2 "PASS"
From the structure analysis, the proposed main structure and base i-beam size are satisfy the structur
design requirement. The proposed 8.0m unipole structure's loading also not exceeding the design live
load of roof slab. From the site visual inspection, the existing roof slabs are in good condition. Thus,
the existing roof slab is capable to withstand the proposed 8.0m height unipole structure.

Wind loading
The axial, side and twisting moment forces stated are maximum loads applied to the tower by the
antenna at a survival wind speed of 200 km/h (125 mph). They are, in every case, the esult of
wind from the most critical direction for each parameter. The individual maximums may not occur
simultaneously. All forces are referenced to the antenna mounting pipe.

Wind loading
The axial, side and twisting moment forces stated are maximum loads applied to the tower by the
antenna at a survival wind speed of 200 km/h (125 mph). They are, in every case, the result of
wind from the most critical direction for each parameter. The individual maximums may not occur
simultaneously. All forces are referenced to the antenna mounting pipe.
Where side struts are fitted, the loads carried by the side struts are
