Cook Your Dog a Meal You’re
Proud of
As someone who is a passionate cook and cookbook collector, it always bothered me that
I could make myself delicious healthy meals, yet fed my dog dehydrated or prepackaged
food.
When my dog Charlotte stopped enjoying her meals, I decided to start home cooking for
her. I came to the realization that she deserved whole fresh foods just like I eat. I wanted
Charlotte to truly enjoy mealtime and show just how much I love her through food.
When I began to look for recipes and advice on home cooking I found it so confusing. The
simple recipes lacked essential nutrients and the complete and balanced recipes were
complicated with tons of ingredients and time consuming prep. A conversation with my
vet confirmed what I thought - making dog food at home was going to be complicated to
ensure Charlotte was getting all the nutrients she needed.

MAKE THE MOST
OUT OF MEAL TIME
I had so much fun making these recipes with my team. I got the pleasure of meeting so
many dogs and dog parents along the way. You will find notes about what I added to
make these dishes unique throughout the book. I love to cook seasonally. I know it is not
always possible, but these recipes give you the freedom to add 10% of additional
ingredients. If in the fall you want to add pumpkin to the doggy burger, and in the summer
you want to add blueberries to the banana oatmeal I’d encourage you to.
5
Upcycled Ingredients In Your Home
Dog Child has been my passion product. I am so excited to share the Essential Nutrient
Mix with all of you. It gives you the freedom to cook for your dog from scratch, with an
array of ingredients to choose from. No one can dispute the extra benefits of a
vegetable-packed whole-food diet, especially after seeing the results in your dog.
Picky Eaters
There’s at least one on every block. A pup that hates chicken. Red meat allergies. A dog
with an aversion to vegetables… or fruits. Like humans, all dogs have dishes they like and
don't like… not all dogs will jump for the veggie casserole, or the doggy burger and that's
ok. The recipes in this book vary so widely that there is a meal for all preferences.
Always lightly cook your veggies, fruit and protein to ensure they are easily digestible. I
also like to finely chop all ingredients for two reasons: picky eaters can’t remove veggies
and the finer the ingredients the better the digestibility of the ingredients. I love to mix up
how I serve the Dog Child recipes whether portioned into muffin tins, smeared onto a lick
mat or frozen into a kong. When preparing for the most accurate portions use a scale and
the measurements.
Dog Child’s Products
Dog Child’s products were developed with a team of leading vets to make cooking for our
dog nutritionally complete, simple and delicious. All our products use high quality
ingredients and organic where possible. They were formulated for gut health with a blend
of probiotics and prebiotic's. We’re passionate about showing pet parents that good
nutrition starts with cooking, and that making complete and balanced meals for our dogs
is quicker and easier than it seems. We are motivated by a simple belief: It’s time to raise
our standards and feed our dogs better.

A Note from Nicole:
The best part about this dish is that you can cook
it over the stove or in the oven. Typically I prefer
to cook over the stove… one (dish) and done as
they say. But the option to assemble the
ingredients and toss them into the stove when I
don't have the time to stand around mixing
comes in handy more often than not. If you want
to bake this dish, mix all the ingredients together
and cook it for about an hour at 160F.
