Duties
It is recognised that certain nationalities of crews are accustomed to different duties
compared to other nationalities (For example officers responsible for the
maintenance of safety and lifesaving equipment). Accordingly, the Master has the
authority to change the tasks as he sees fit in agreement with the Ship Management
Office.
In addition, the Master has the authority to allocate any reasonable task or duties
that may be required for the safe and efficient operation of the ship.
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
Engineer Officer in charge of the Watch, Ensuring safe and efficient operation of
machinery during watch keeping. Carrying out duties of an Engineer as contained
within the Company’s Technical Procedures. Maintaining machinery as instructed by
the Second Engineer and/or Chief Engineer
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Third Engineer is responsible to the second Engineer for:
Maintaining an engine room watch/UMS duty engineer as required
Maintaining all plant and paying particular attention to the main propulsion
engines, auxiliary engines and boilers
Adopting safe working practices onboard
In the absence of an Electrical Officer onboard undertake electrical
maintenance, including the completion of all PMS items in ShipSure
Understudying the Second Engineer whenever opportunities arise
Undertaking any other tasks, duties as instructed by the chief Engineer and/or
Second Engineer
