Size: adjustable foot length, choose your Finished Size:

cast-on stitch number according to your cuff circumference: 11.5cm (4.5 inches)
gauge: cuff length (top to bottom of heel):
11.5cm (4.5 inches)
Gauge: If your gauge is 28-30 sts / 10cm (4
inches) in stockinette stitch, cast on 32 sts. foot length is adjustable:
if your gauge is 25-27 sts / 10cm (4 inches), newborn: 9cm (3,5 inches),
cast on 28 sts. 3-6months: 10cm (3.9 inches),
6-12 months: 11.5cm (4.5 inches),
12-18 months: 12.5cm (4.9 inches),
Yarn: any yarn is possible. I suggest cotton

sensitive to scratchy yarn.

Needles: Sock needles (2,5mm) (US 1)

BABY SOCKS // STITCHES PAST FIVE

CUFF
Cast On 28 (32) stitches.
Start working in the round, ensuring that your work is not twisted. Knit 2
Purl 2 until your cuff measures about 2.5cm (1 inch) (or your desired length).

SHAFT
Continue working in the round, now knit all stitches (stockinette stitch).
Knit until your shaft measures about 9cm (3.5 inches), from the cast-on
edge.

HEEL
Ensure that your stitches are evenly divided on your 4 needles; 7 7 7 7 (8 8 8
8). Knit until you reach the beginning of the round (where your cast-on yarn
end is at the top of your cuff).
Knit across the next 2 needles, placing 2 stitch markers as follows:
knit 4 (5), place marker, knit 6 (6), place marker, knit 4 (5).

Turn your work.

Row 1 (wrong side): Create a Double Stitch (DS), Purl to the end, turn work
Row 2: DS, Knit to the last DS but do not work it, turn work
Row 3: DS, Purl to the last DS but do not work it, turn work

Repeat Row 2 and 3 until you have worked all the stitches outside of the
stitch markers.

Part 2 of the heel:

Row 1: Knit to the first DS, knit the DS together as one stitch, turn work
Row 2: DS, Purl to the first DS, purl the DS together as one stitch, turn work
Row 3: DS, Knit to the first DS, knit it together as one stitch, repeat with the
next DS stitch, turn work
Row 4: DS, Purl to the first DS, purl it together as one stitch, repeat with the
next DS stitch, turn work

repeat row 3 & 4 until no more DS remain. Now you can start working in the
round again. You might want to pick up 1-2 stitches on the sides in order to
avoid holes from forming.

FOOT
Continue working in Stockinette stitch. Ensure to decrease back to 28 (32) in
cast you picked up some stitches on the sides.
Work until your foot, measured from the end of the heel when laid flat
measures 2.5cm (1 inch) less than your desired foot length (see sizing on
page 1)

TOE
Ensure that your stitches are evenly distributed on your four needles, and
that the end of your 2nd and 4th needle align with the sides of your heel.
This is where the decreases will be worked.

You can place a stitch marker for the beginning of the round between your
1st and your 4th needle. This should be in line with your cast-on yarn and
one side of your heel (ankle). You can place a 2nd stitch marker on the other
side, between the 2nd and 3rd needle, in line with the other side of the heel
(ankle).

Starting at the beginning of the round:

Round 1:
Knit 1, slip-slip-knit (SSK), knit to 3 stitches remain on the 2nd needle (3
stitches before your 2nd stitch marker). Knit 2 together (K2tog), then knit the
last stitch.
Knit 1, SSK, knit to 3 stitches remain on the 4th needle. K2tog, knit last
stitch.

Round 2:
knit all.

Repeat Round 1 & 2 until 20 stitches remain in total.

Then: repeat round 1 only until 8 stitches remain in total.

Knit next 2 stitches, and slip stitches onto 2 needles so that you have 4 sts
on each needle.

Graft together using kitchener stitch.
