3.2 OPMI 1 FR pro

3.2.1 Changing the microscope body with FR illumination system


1) Unscrew stop plate (1).

2) Move the microscope with the focusing drive


from the toothed rack in downward direction.
Make sure that the OPMI cannot fall down.

3) Proceed in the reverse order for installation.

3.2.2 Changing the motorized focusing and tilt coupling


1) Remove the OPMI (see 3.2.1, page 4).
2) Remove the supply cable.
3) Remove the focusing and tilt coupling from the
stand.
4) Install the new focusing and tilt coupling.
5) Proceed in the reverse order to install the
microscope.

3.2.3 Adjusting the tilt motion


1) Undo set screw M2x3 (3) on nut (1) of
star knob (2). Increase or reduce the friction of 1
the tilt motion by turning nut (1).

Note
The friction of the tilt motion about the axis
must be adjustable using the star knob. The
star knob permits the tilt motion of the 3
microscope to be either released or locked.

2) When locking is released, the microscope must be


easily tiltable. The carrier must not move
downward by itself.

3.2.4 Changing the focus motor


1) Undo 2 screws M2x4 DIN 963 (1) and remove
cover (2).

Note
Should only be performed by authorized 1
workshops.

2) Open strain relief device (3) using fork


wrench SW 11.
3) Undo 4 screws M2.5x16 DIN 912 (4).

4) Carefully remove motor (5). Move connecting


cable (6) along accordingly.
5) Cut open the shrink sleeve and unsolder the
cable. Note down the cable connections
beforehand.
6) Provide the soldering points with a new shrink 6
sleeve.

3.2.5 Adjusting the slip coupling of the focusing drive


1) Loosen lateral set screw M2.5x4 DIN 913 (1)
of nut (1). Increase or reduce the friction of the
slip coupling by turning nut (2). 1 2

Note
The current consumption values of the focus
motor at 12V DC should be as follows:
Focus up without load: 60 mA
Focus up with load: 120 mA

2) Focus up with active slip coupling = 130 - 160 mA


3) The same current values apply to focus down.
Load (test weight) = 3.3 kg

3.2.6 Changing the magnification changer


1) Undo two screws M4x12 DIN 6912 (3).

2) Undo screw M2.5x16 DIN 912 (4).


3) Remove the housing with the magnification
changer.

4) Insert a non-metallic object (e.g. plastic) through


the opening in the magnification changer (1).
5) Loosen the two rotary knobs (2).

6) Mark the magnification changer's installation


position (right / left) in the housing. 4 3
7) Undo screw M2.5x6 DIN 84 (3) and remove
catch springs (4).
8) Unscrew the previously loosened adjusting
knobs (5) all the way and remove the
magnification changer.

Note
If you re-install the same magnification
changer, note the marked installation 5
position of the catch springs.

3.2.7 Adjusting the magnification changer


1) Set the magnification changer to position 1 (free passage).
2) Focus the system on an object (e.g. crosslines on graph paper).
3) Center the object in the field of view.
4) Switch to other magnification steps. The object must remain positioned at the center in this
process. Tolerance: 0.5 mm displacement from the center.

Note
If an upward or downward displacement exists at the individual magnification steps
(must be identical in the right and left eyepieces), this can be corrected by adjusting catch
spring (2).
If a vertical error is present (must be different in the left and right eyepieces), the
magnification changer needs to be exchanged.
In both cases, the housing containing the magnification changer must be removed from the
microscope carrier beforehand.

5) Loosen screw (1) and move catch spring (2) in the


direction of the arrows until the object remains
centered at all of the six magnification steps.
6) Apply threadlocker to screw M2.5x6 DIN 84 (1). 1

3.2.8 Changing the complete FR illumination system


1) Undo three screws M3x12 DIN 912 (1) and
remove FR illumination system (2).

Note
For exchanging the complete FR illumination 1
system, the microscope body must be
removed beforehand.

3.2.9 Changing the retinal protection device and/or yellow filter


1) Loosen set screw M3x6 DIN 913 (3) and
remove the FR illumination lens module with light
guide sleeve (4).

3) Open the two parts (1 and 2) only to such an


extent that retinal protection device (3) can be
removed. 1 2 3
4) Exchange retinal protection device (3).
5) Proceed in the reverse order for assembly.

Note
Apply threadlocker to the screws.
Pay attention to the spring washers.
Proceed with extreme care.

3.2.10 Aligning the retinal protection device


1) Undo set screw M2x4 DIN 914 (4).
2) Use set screw (5) to adjust the vertical limit in such
a way that the black dot of the retinal protection
device is centered in the field of view.
3) Retighten set screw (4).

3.2.11 Changing the yellow filter


1) Remove cover (6).
2) Unscrew and remove the clamp.
3) Press down dowel pin (7). 8 6
4) Carefully pull out yellow filter (8).
5) Proceed in the reverse order for assembly.

Note
Pay attention to the spring washers!
Proceed with extreme care.
There is a high risk of damaging the retinal
protection device (illustration above).

3.2.12 Aligning the FR illumination system


1) Loosen two screws M2.5x10 DIN 84 (1).

2) Use 4 set screws M2x4 DIN 913 (2) to align
the mirror mount with mirror (3).

Alignment procedure
1) Screw the main objective lens f = 200 into the
microscope body.
2) Set the magnification changer to position 1
(free passage).
3) Focus on an object (e.g. alignment pattern)
4) Center the object in the field of view.
5) Assess the displacement of the illuminated field
relative to the field of view (radial tolerance
1 mm).
6) If the illuminated field is out of tolerance, correct
its position by shifting or tilting mirror mount (3).
7) For shifting the mirror, undo the two screws (1).
8) For tilting the mirror, screw the four set screws (2) Fig. 3 - 21: Alignment procedure
in or out as required. To do this, you also have to
loosen the two screws (1).

3.2.13 Exchange lighting module (LED version only)


1) Disconnect the cable (1).
2) Loosen the two M3x12 ISO 14579 screws (2).
3) Remove lighting module. 1
4) Install the new lighting module by proceeding
in the reverse order.

3.2.14 Exchange LED module (LED version only)


1) Disconnect the cable (1).
2) Loosen two M3x20 ISO 14579 screws (3).
3) Remove heatsink with LED module.
4) Loosen the two M2.5x4 ISO 14580
screws (4).
5) Remove LED module.
6) Install the new LED module by proceeding in
the reverse order.

3.2.15 Exchange the optical module (LED version only)


1) Remove the heat sink with the LED module
(see 3.2.14, page 13).
2) Loosen and remove the two M3x12 ISO 14579

screws (5).
3) Remove optical module. Proceed in the reverse 7*
order for assembly.
Note
The retina protection filter movement can 6
be adjusted at the nut (6). The nut head
must be secured with Kl.44 after
adjustment.

* The retina protection filter can be justified using Fig. 3 - 24: Exchange the optical module
the screw (7).

3.2.16 Exchange the casing with the magnification changer


(LED version only)
1) Remove the LED lighting module
(see 3.2.13, page 13).
2) Unscrew the two M4x12 DIN 6912 (1) screws
and the M2.5x12 ISO 4762 (2) screw and
remove the casing.
3) Install the new casing by proceeding in the
reverse order.

3.2.17 Exchange the positioning switch for the power-operated changer


(LED version only)
1) Remove the casing with the magnification 3
changer (see 3.2.16, page 14).
2) Unscrew the two M2.5x6 ISO 14580
screws (3) and remove the switch assembly.

3) Lift the flap on the motor plug-in contact (4)
using a sharp object and carefully remove the 4
red and the black cables from the motor.
4) Proceed in the reverse order to mount the new
switch assembly.

3.2.18 Remove the motor for the magnification changer


(LED version only)
1) Remove casing and magnification changer
(see 3.2.16, page 14). 1
2) Remove the switch assembly
(see 3.2.17, page 14).
3) Unscrew the 2 M1.6x5 ISO 4762 screws (1) 2
and remove cover (2).

4) Unscrew union nut (3) and remove motor


assembly (4).

Turn the union nut only and not the
motor housing!

6) Pull out the coupling (1).


7) Unscrew the cover (2). Secure the thread on
the cover with Kl.44 when reassembling

9) Remove the motor.
10) Proceed in the reverse order for assembly.

3.2.19 Exchange the magnification changer (LED version only)


1) Remove the casing and the magnification
changer (see 3.2.16, page 14). 4
2) Mark the position of the spring with a pointed
instrument (4).
3) Remove the motor assembly
(see 3.2.18, page 15).

Note
The position of the spring has been
justified by the manufacturer. It is
essential to mark the spring in order that
the vertical image deviation between the
various magnifications remains as low as
possible.

4) Mark either the right or the left side of the


magnification changer.
5) Insert a non-metallic object (e.g. plastic) 2
through the opening in the magnification
changer (1).
6) Unscrew the rotary knob (2).

7) Unscrew the coupler from the groove (3) using


circlip pliers or similar.
8) Remove the magnification changer. 3
9) Install the new magnification changer the right
way round (compare with the markings on the
old changer if necessary).
10) Proceed in the reverse order for assembly.

3.2.20 Exchange the outdoor cable (LED version only)


1) Remove the LED lighting module
(see 3.2.13, page 13) 1
2) Remove the casing and the magnification
changer (see 3.2.16, page 14).
3) Unscrew the 2 M3x10 DIN 7991 screws (1)
and remove end stop.
4) Unscrew the 2 M2x4 DIN 2009 screws (2) 2
and remove the cover.

5) Unscrew and remove end stop screw (3).


6) Carefully push the plate and the dovetail 4
mount (4) downwards out of the guide

Note
When installing the end stop screws, do

not over-tighten, as otherwise the
focusing guide would be trapped.

7) Unscrew one M3x5 ISO 1207 screw (5) and


one M3x6 ISO 1207 screw (6) and remove
them.

8) Remove the steering rack (7).

9) Unscrew one M3x8 ISO 1207 screw (1) and


two M3x6 ISO 1207 screws (2) and remove 1
them.
10) Take off the dovetail mount (3). 3

screw (4).
12) Remove the cable from the guide.

13) Loosen and remove the three M2.5x4

15) Remove the focusing motor
(see 3.2.4, page 6).
16) Replacing cables.
17) Proceed in the reverse order for assembly.

3.3 XY coupling (optional)


3.3.1 Removing the paneling of the XY coupling
1) Undo Torx screw M4x8 ISO 14583 (1) and
remove paneling section (2).

2) Remove internal screw, as shown in the


illustration.

3) Undo countersunk screw M3x8 ISO 10642 (3)


and pull off the second paneling section (4).

Proceed in the reverse order for installation.

3.3.2 Changing the XY coupling potentiometer assembly


1) Switch off the system and disconnect it from
line power.
2) Remove the paneling of the XY coupling
(see 3.3.1, page 20).

3) Remove all cable ties of the potentiometer
cable.
4) Disconnect potentiometer assembly from the
XY comp. drive PCB. 1

5) Undo three Torx screws M 2 x 12 ISO 14579


(1)
and remove the potentiometer assembly.

Proceed in the reverse order for installing the Fig. 3 - 46: Potentiometer assembly for
XY coupling
potentiometer assembly. The procedure for
changing
the potentiometer assembly of the X direction is
identical.

Note
When installing the potentiometer assembly, make sure that marks (2) are correctly oriented!
A reference travel is required after installation. For this purpose, press the button for
automatic centering, switch on the system and keep the button pressed until the reference
travel is started (approx. 5 s).

3.3.3 Changing the motor assembly of the XY coupling


1) Switch off the system and disconnect it from line
power.
2) Remove the paneling of the XY coupling
(see 3.3.1, page 20).
3) Remove all cable ties of the motor assembly to
be changed.
4) Disconnect the motor assembly from the 3
XY coupling PCB.
5) Unscrew nut M 4 ISO 4032 (3).

6) Unscrew the spindle (2) of motor assembly


from the XY coupling using a screwdriver.
7) Undo four Torx screws M 3x12 ISO 14579 (1)
and remove the motor assembly. 2 1 3

For installation:

1) Screw the spindle (2) all the way in.


2) Unscrew the spindle (2) with a 1/8th turn
again, so that the spindle is not uptight.
3) Secure the spindle (2) with the nut.
(Hold the spindle in position.)
Secure is with adhesive 44. Fig. 3 - 48: Spindle of motor assembly
4) Move the motor all the way away from the
casing block (3). See arrow.
5) Tight the four screws (1), secure it with adhesive 44.

Note
The motor assembly must be aligned axially to the spindle when it is installed.

To do this:
ƒ Start up system and check spindle movement.

3.3.4 Changing the XY coupling PCB


1) Remove the potentiometer (see 3.3.2, page 21).
2) Remove the cable ties.
3) Undo two Torx screws M3x5 ISO 10642 (1) and
remove retaining plate (2).
4) Unplug all connectors on the XY comp. drive PCB.

5) Undo four Torx screws M3x8 ISO 14579 (3) and


remove the PCB.

Proceed in the reverse order for installation.

Adjust the switch settings on the new PCB in


accordance with the standard configuration.

3.4 S100+ stand

3.4.1 Changing the gas spring


Removal:
1) Remove the OPMI from the stand.
2) Turn the weight adjustment screw to the 1
maximum weight (clockwise from below).
3) Remove the locking screw and upper cover on the
suspension arm.
4) Remove protection flap (1).

5) Move the suspension arm into the upward


position.
6) Loosen set screw (2) and push out pin (3).

Note
Hold the two sections of the suspension arm
together when pushing out pin (3).

7) Carefully allow the suspension arm sections to 3


come apart. If necessary, release the illumination
potentiometer cable from the cable clip on the
upper suspension arm section.

Washers are provided on the left and right of
the upper suspension arm section. They may
fall down when you push out the pin.

8) Remove the cover plate below the weight


adjustment screw.
9) Remove retaining plate (4) and unscrew weight
adjustment screw (5). 5
10) Remove the gas spring.

Installation:
1) Insert the gas spring in the suspension arm.

Note
The longer end of threaded part (1) must
point upward during installation.

2) Lubricate the thread of weight adjustment


screw (2) and turn in the screw.
3) Mount retaining plate (3) again. For this purpose,
apply threadlocker KL 44 to screws (4), turn in the
screws and only tighten them to such an extent

that weight adjustment screw (2) can still be 4
turned and no cracking noise is heard when the
suspension arm is moved up and down. 2
4) Mount the cover plate again below the weight
adjustment screw.

5) Slightly press the suspension arm sections


together and, if necessary, secure the illumination 6
potentiometer cable using the cable clip on the
upper suspension arm section.
6) Insert pin (5) in clamp (6).

7) Insert pin (1) and secure it using set screw (2).


8) Mount protection flap (3). 2 1 3
9) Mount the cover and locking screw of the
suspension arm again.
10) Insert the OPMI.
11) Adjust the balance setting.

3.4.2 Changing and adjusting the inclination switch


Removal:
1) Remove the OPMI from the stand.
2) Turn the weight adjustment screw to minimum 3
weight (counterclockwise from below).
3) Remove the locking screw and upper cover on the
suspension arm.
4) Remove protection flap (3).

5) Loosen set screw (4) and push out pin (5).

Hold the two sections of the suspension arm
together when pushing out pin (1).
6) Carefully allow the suspension arm sections to
come apart. If necessary, release the illumination
potentiometer cable from the cable clip on the
upper suspension arm section.

Note
Washers are provided on the left and right of
the upper suspension arm section.
They may fall down when you push out

7) Remove and unsolder microswitch (1), or remove


the cable up to the illumination unit.

Installation:
1) Insert the microswitch and route the cable up to
the illumination unit. 3
2) Slightly press the suspension arm sections
together and, if necessary, secure the illumination 2
potentiometer cable using the cable clip on the
upper suspension arm section.
3) Insert pin (2) in clamp (3).

4) Re-insert pin (4) and tighten set screw (5).

Adjusting the inclination switch:


1) Lock the suspension arm in the desired park
position (1).

2) Loosen screws (3 and 4) and adjust the switching
cam in such a way that the inclination switch 7
activates the OPMI illumination at the desired tilt
of the suspension arm, or loosen screws (5 and 6)
and adjust the microswitch.
3) Tighten screws (3 and 4) or (5 and 6).
4) Correctly reinsert protection flap (7) in the
guideways of cover (2).
5) Mount cover (2). 5/6
6) Insert the OPMI.

3.4.3 Changing the illumination potentiometer


Removal:
1) Remove the OPMI from the stand.
2) Turn the weight adjustment screw to minimum weight (counterclockwise from below).
3) Remove the locking screw and upper cover of the suspension arm.
4) Remove the cover and cable conduit.
5) Remove the protection flap.
6) Loosen the set screw and push out the pin.

Note
Hold the two suspension arm sections together with your hand.
Carefully allow the suspension arm sections to come apart. If necessary, release the
illumination potentiometer cable from the cable clip on the upper suspension arm section.

7) Remove locking screws (8) and covers (9).

9) Unplug cable (1) on the lamp control PCB.


Remove strain relief devices and cable holders (2).
Remove the cable from the stand arm.
10) Cut the cable ties open.

11) Remove the potentiometer knob with the


indicator disk (undo set screw (3) for this
purpose).
12) Unscrew the nut and remove the potentiometer.

13) Turn the weight adjustment screw to minimum


weight (counterclockwise from below).
14) Remove the locking screw and upper cover on 4
the suspension arm.
15) Remove protection flap (4).

16) Loosen set screw (1) and push out pin (2).

Note
Hold the two sections of the suspension arm
together when pushing out pin (2).

17) Carefully allow the suspension arm sections to


come apart. If necessary, release the illumination
potentiometer cable from the cable clip on the
upper suspension arm section.

Note
Washers are provided on the left and right of
the upper suspension arm section.
They may fall down when you push out the Fig. 3 - 68: Removing the potentiometer
pin.

18) Remove the potentiometer.


For this purpose, loosen the nut (SW 10) and
washer and pull out the potentiometer.
19) Pull the potentiometer cable through the stand.

Installation:
1) Insert the cable in the stand arm and secure it
with cable ties. 4
2) Mount the potentiometer.
3) Re-attach the knob and cap.
4) Slightly press the suspension arm sections 3
together and, if necessary, secure the illumination
potentiometer cable using the cable clip on the
upper suspension arm section.
5) Insert pin (3) in clamp (4).

6) Re-insert pin (1) and tighten set screw (2).


7) Mount protection flap (3).
8) Adjust the switching point of the microswitch. 1 2 3
9) Mount the cover and locking screw of the
suspension arm again.
10) Mount the cover and cable conduit (4).
11) Insert the OPMI.
12) Adjust the balance setting.
13) Plug the cable.
14) Mount the covers and locking screws.
15) Install the connection module. 4

3.4.4 Changing the suspension arm


Removal:
1) Remove the OPMI from the stand.
2) Remove locking screw (5) and the cover (6).
3) Remove locking screws (7) and the paneling. 7 6 5
4) Remove the cover and cable conduit (8).
5) Remove connection module (9)

6) Unplug cables (10) and pull them out of the


illumination unit.
7) Unscrew cable holders (11).
8) Cut the cable tie open and remove the cable from 10
the rear tube. 11
9) Pull the cables upward or downward out of the
stand arm joint.

10) Remove stop screw (1).


11) Remove retaining rings (2) and thrust washer (3),
and pull the suspension arm out of the rear tube
bearing.

Installation:
1) Insert the new suspension arm in the rear tube
bearing and secure it using thrust washer (3) and
retaining rings (2).
2) Route the cables upward or downward through
the stand arm bearing. 4
3) Secure the cables on the rear tube using cable
ties.

4) Route the light guide along the suspension arm
and mount the cover and cable conduit.
5) Route cables (4) into the illumination unit and
plug them.
6) Re-insert and secure the connection module.
7) Insert the OPMI.

8) Adjust the balance setting.
9) Adjust the inclination switch.

3.4.5 Removing the illumination unit


Removal:
1) Remove the lamp module.
2) Disconnect the light guide.
3) Remove the connection module.
4) Remove four Phillips screws (1) and
two hex socket head screws (2). 1
5) Remove the housing sections, while pressing the
power switch slightly inward and paying attention
to the activation button for the lamp module.

Installation:
1) Insert the lamp module activation button in the housing and re-attach the housing sections,
making sure the activation button is correctly positioned.
2) Align the housing sections relative to each other and screw them together using screws (1/2).
3) Insert the lamp module and check it for smooth function. If necessary, loosen and re-align the
housing sections.
4) Re-install the connection module.
5) Make sure the rating label is correct.
6) Connect the light guide.

3.4.6 Changing the stand casters


1) Bring the floor stand into its transport position
and tighten the locking screws.
2) Lock all four casters in position.
3) Lift base cover (1) and turn it through 90°.

4) Tilt the stand to one side and place the base on


a suitable support (2).
5) Remove the caster using a 24 mm fork wrench.

Installation:
1) Proceed in the reverse order for installation, making sure that the locking washers are correctly
positioned.

3.4.7 Change FBG LED-OPMI control


1) Take out mains cable
2) Take off the cover cap (1).
3) Unscrew and remove the three casing 1
screws (2).
4) Remove the side section.

8) Unplug the cable from the distributor board.


9) Unscrew the four M 3 x 6 ISO 10644 screws (1)
and remove from the distributor board.

Caution
Follow the ESD guidelines.

10) Proceed in the reverse order for assembly.

3.4.8 Exchange the mains cable (LED version only)


1) Remove the casing (see 3.4.7, page 35).
2) Move the protective foil (2) to one side.

3) Unplug the cable from the distributor board.


4) Unscrew the four M3 x 6 ISO 10644 screws (3)
and remove from the distributor board.

Caution
Follow the ESD guidelines.

3.5 PSU with table bracket


1) Disconnect OPMI from PSU and remove it.
2) Take out the light guide.
3) Loosen tilt clamp lever (1). 2
4) Remove swivel arm (2).

9) Remove five screws M4x10 DIN 963.


10) Carefully take out the Plate, complete with PSU
assembly (1).

11) For assembling: Be sure that the larger gap of


the cover fits to the brightness control knob.
